Thursday News Summaries and Commentaries

So the CBI wants to have a press conference at the Sheraton, sure they have plenty of AC and a large meeting room, but why have a press conference to just announce a loan to the banks.....there has to be more....time to put your thinking caps on.

Moussawi: There is a great difficulty in passing the draft oil and gas law in parliament

Here we have a member of the National Alliance bloc stating that he believes passing the oil and gas law will face difficulty in Parliament.....why is that.....

He also says that Parliament is interested in passing important laws that clearly impact the lives of the Iraqi citizens....pointing to a number of other laws that have been read not just once but twice, meaning they are ready for a vote.....National Guard law, Federal Court law, Political Parties law.....all stand poised and ready for a vote.....
....
Where is the hold up of this process, what might they be afraid of at this time....or better yet....ask yourself....what are they waiting on at this time.....do they await the oil and gas law.....do they know it brings a final parity to these other laws, the final key for each of them to be fully meaningful....because of what the oil and gas law has within itself.....

The device, that fourth part of what has already been approved....the portion that is to be allotted to the citizens....from Iraq's viewpoint....the granddaddy of all laws.....make it so PM A....make it so.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament confirms the existence of 17 laws ready for the second reading

You want laws.....Parliament just announced they have 17 laws that are ready for the second reading....bring forth these laws and let the flood gates of Parliament open to the citizens of Iraq, may they be treated to a significant amount of work that puts these laws into effect for all of Iraq....these 17 and a handful of others who by their very nature are the SUPER powerful of all laws....bring them forward and let the tide rise with such an influx of effort by Parliament in their coming sessions.

Finance Committee: Khulna government, legal stresses: the provinces are obliged to apply tariffs

Ok ho-hum the Finance Committee is barking yet again....so what.....today they talk about tariffs claiming they were implemented last Saturday....at all ports and border crossings.....these folks must not read their own news or my summaries.....

Basra isn't buying into this project just yet, because the Kurds aren't doing their part....meanwhile the Fin Comm continues to bark at the wrong tree....or do they....one thing they mention of interest is the "issuance" of domestic and international securities....these securities or bonds....may well hold the key for reducing the 25 trillion dinar deficit that Iraq faces today.....it's a good thing to see it mentioned here...

Meanwhile the tariffs....what of the tariffs....it would seem they are real....but several provinces want to test the waters of compliance, mainly the Kurds and Basra....I suspect the government in Baghdad will win this tug of war in time.

Stop paying salaries to employees who prove their dealings with Daash

Finally a headline that makes much sense....STOP paying people who you can prove have dealings with DAASH...instead why not jail them and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law....this is a list you do not wish to wake up one morning and find your name on.

Commodity prices are high .. markets and citizens are demanding stakeholders Atodih reasons

So the price of eggs is going up....so are chickens.....I'm suspecting some street-smart vender is trying to count his chickens before he lets the eggs hatch....he's trying to get ahead knowing that prices will soon be on the increase with the start of tariffs....but it would seem the gun was misfired and the citizens are up in arms wanting to know why these increases are happening.....so of course someone tries to blame the exchange rate....but wait the exchange rate has come down....no good looking in that direction.....so now they must look elsewhere.....try the black market as the culprit this time.

National Coalition calls for legislation law to protect the wealth of the country of "corruption mafias"

A member of the National Coalition is calling "calf-rope" on finding ways to protect the wealth of the country against corrupt mafias.....a legislative law is needed to put an end to corrupt ways of the past 9 or so years.....taking from PM Abadi's phrase that is going virial, "Where did you get this?" Signaling an end to years of procrastination.....

But were they years of procrastination or years of just turning a blind eye as the leader's pockets got lined as well.....all that is coming to an end thanks to the efforts of PM Abadi, the Integrity Commission, and others who are willing to take a risk and stand up to these mafias and say enough is enough, empty your pockets and provide your financials or risk some time in jail....

Put the screws to these mafias and make them repay the citizens of Iraq what was stolen.

At the disposal of the French Le Figaro: Maliki's son offers students Finnish citizenship papers .. and embarrassing newspaper published a picture of him!

Well well well, little Maliki surfaces in Finland....trying to run away on Daddy's coattails.....but he gets fingered and exposed for attempting to "fast-track" citizenship papers....but the Finns are no slouch with this kind of political football and they understand the stakes at play....not so fast junior....there is a process and you can follow it just like anyone else.
Parliamentary Economy: Iraq paid a large proportion of its debts and the postponement of Kuwait .. "interest-free"

Oh contrare Mr. Deputy Chairman....postponing the final payment to Kuwait until 2017 probably has had a beneficial effect for Iraq.....they owe something just over $4 billion dollars to Kuwait as the final payment.....that is a huge chunk of change for a coountry with a sudden liquidity issue....seems to me this delay in payment for 2 years was appropriate and timely....but now let's work on getting back on our feet shall we.

Parliamentary economy: we will proceed law is able to attract capital and create jobs

Parliament Committee on Economy and Investment stands ready to vote on the new Investment Law, ready to push it forward to lessen the red tape for investors and significantly reduce corruption from what was previously tied to the old law....make it so....put it to a vote and move forward for the sake of bringing new jobs throughout Iraq.

Babylon celebrates the transfer of powers and their portfolios confirms that the project will happen quantum leap

Thursday celebrations in the province of Babylon mark the transfer of powers from some ministries to the local levels and make it appear encouraging that others are to follow as well.....good news for the provinces and local governments as Baghdad makes these moves to show support for their abilities to carry forward with work that was formerly reserved only at the state level....good signs of things to come that are positive and proactive from this government.

Time to stretch the legs and grab something to drink....maybe a cookie or two.
