chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Photographs obtained by Rudaw give a rare glimpse of life inside the ISIS-held city of Ramadi, which fell to the jihadists on May 17 as the Iraqi Army raced back to Baghdad. The images show the firm control ISIS has over the population, namely by using checkpoints and intimidation. ”There are many difficulties in [recapturing] Anbar.

The main one is the political process and at the military level. Anbar represents 32 percent of Iraq's total surface area, and this land mass indicates the need for a massive military effort," security analyst Ahmad Sharifi told Rudaw.

Sharifi added that Anbar is considered important because of the border with Syria, which ISIS uses as a way to infiltrate the cities of Iraq.
~~~
"In order to defeat ISIS, we need an extraordinary military effort because ISIS is receiving support from regional countries. However, the ongoing military operations in Ramadi indicate the slow movement of ISIS radicals in the city,” he said.
Iraqi forces are fighting along a wide stretch on the outskirts of Ramadi. Security forces claimed to control the Al-Tash area, the University of Anbar, the train station area and the district some 5km west of Ramadi.
chattels: (AIN) -ISIL slamic State militants on Sunday blew up the temple of Baal Shamin, one of the most important sites in Syria's ancient city of Palmyra, said Maamoun Abdul Karim, the country's antiquities chief. The temple bombing would be the first time the insurgents, who control swathes of Syria and Iraq and captured Palmyra in May, damaged monumental Roman-era ruins.
"We have said repeatedly the next phase would be one of terrorizing people and when they have time they will begin destroying temples," Abdul Karim told Reuters. "I am seeing Palmyra being destroyed in front of my eyes," he added. "God help us in the days to come."
A week ago, the militants beheaded Khaled Asaad, an 82-year-old scholar who worked for more than 50 years as head of antiquities in Palmyra, after detaining and interrogating him for over a month.
 Before the city's capture by Islamic State, Syrian officials said they moved hundreds of ancient statues to safe locations out of concern that the militants would destroy them.chattels: http://ift.tt/1RmeaU6.
chattels: (AIN) -Oil prices dipped below $40 a barrel Friday for the first time in 6 ½ years on the prospect of falling global demand, busting through a key threshold that could signal further declines and market turmoil.
The price of West Texas Intermediate for October delivery dropped as low as $39.86 a barrel, the first time it was under $40 since March 2009.
Crude rallied to close at $40.45, but it was still down 87 cents on the day. And some analysts say the drop below $40 likely portends an additional slide into the $30's and continued weakness in the short term.
"It's a very important psychological level,“ says Phil Flynn, senior energy analyst with the Price Futures Group. “It really signals that the global economy is in trouble.”
chattels: Meanwhile, the end of refinery maintenance in November will likely coincide with the beginning of the winter fuel season, further supporting crude prices, Kloza says.
He predicts oil could hover in the $30-$40 range for a couple of months before rising toward $50 by the end of the year. In an unusual development, gasoline prices could be headed in the opposite direction.
 A strong summer driving season has kept gas prices relatively high, but softer demand this fall and the fall ramp-up of refineries is likely to push down regular unleaded to about $2 a gallon coming months, Kloza says.   chattels: http://ift.tt/1RmeaU6...
chattels: XXX : I don’t see – with the mounting charges, how Maliki survives this barrage. Mosul, Halabja, embezzlement from the CBI, the Speicher massacre, the prison break, it goes on and on and on… Further – my comments regarding “Maliki as gone” – are clearly “forward looking statements” and ARE IN PROGRESS.
Visible progress has been made – for now, Maliki is NOT A VP and is NOT WELCOME in official GOI meetings. Party meetings are one thing. GOI is another thing entirely. Rather than get caught up in who’s right and who’s wrong and what the details are – what about the WHY??
sczin11: JMHO-since last monday when SJC didnt accept Mahmoud resignation, I have believed Abadi and his legal advisors are not that blind to the Iraqi law of the land! they must have a plan laid out-they had to know SJC would rule as they did-they must be aware of the constitution and what they can and can not do
chattels: - Rather than get caught up in who’s right and who’s wrong
chattels: PEOPLE WHO ARE WRONG USUALLY END UP DEFLECTING FROM THE ISSUE THAT THEY CREATED AS TO RIGHT / WRONG WITH THEIR OWN HYPE, SENSATIONALISM AND ARROGANCE
chattels: ‹@sczin11› WE HOPE THAT THERE IS A PLAN TO ACCOMODATE THE RULE OF LAW AND THAT REFORMS ARE ACCOMPLISHED WITH RESPECT FOR THE CONSTITUTION - WHICH IS WHAT VISSER AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN SAYING FROM DAY 1
