chattels: GOOD MORNING ALL

chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — A top Shiite militia commander announced Saturday his forces had faced “fierce resistance” from Islamic State in the oil-refinery city of Baiji on the main road to the ISIS stronghold of Mosul.

Hadi Ameri, the leader of the Badr Brigade, said militants had concentrated efforts to retake the city from Iraqi joint forces as clashes intensified during the weekend in the town and in surrounding villages.

“They attacked Iraqi forces with 28 car bombs in one day alone which made us retreat from some districts,” Ameri told a gathering in Baghdad on Saturday, adding the retreat was temporarily.

The city’s closed oil refinery, the biggest in the country, and a large power plant have given the city strategic importance by the militants reportedly planned to use the facilities. Ameri also pointed out that Baiji’s strategic location between Mosul and Anbar province in the south is “invaluable” for the militants who want to preserve control of both areas.

“If they retake Baiji, recapturing Mosul for Iraqi forces will be even more difficult than it is now,” Ameri said.

At least 12 security forces were killed on Wednesday when car bombs targeted Iraqi positions in Baiji, officials said. Officials announced last week a joint force consisting of the Iraqi Army, Shiite militias anti-ISIS Sunni tribesmen will take part in the much-anticipated offensive to retake Mosul, which fell to ISIS in June last year.

The fall of Mosul effectively changed the nature of the war, with the militants gaining access to financial and army resources in Iraq’s second-largest city. Officials have said the joint Iraqi force will coordinate with Kurdish Peshmerga troops as well as a special US military and consultative force based in Rabia near the Syrian border.    chattels: http://ift.tt/1Ny5Ort...

chattels: " ............ a special US military and consultative force based in Rabia near the Syrian border."

chattels: RABIA IS A SYRIAN TOWN.

chattels: I NOTE THE FOREGOING TO SUGGEST THAT THERE MAY BE A SIGNIFICANT FORCE OF AMERICANS IN SYRIA, BUT NOT IRAQ DUE TO IRAQI OBJECTIONS TO BOOTS ON THE GROUND BY FOREIGNERS

chattels: I HAVE PREVIOUSLY SPECULATED ABOUT " CLOSE SUPPORT " TO BE PROVIDED BY THE US IN MAJOR CONFLICTS IN IRAQ ON THE HORIZON.

chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region— A top Iraqi official told Rudaw on Saturday the deployment of joint military forces to recapture the besieged city of Ramadi is complete as more than 10,000 troops from the police and army have been mobilized for the long-awaited offensive.

General Jaafar Saddam from the Iraqi national police force told Rudaw the offensive will be “decisive” and aims to liberate parts of the city that are currently under Islamic State control.

chattels: The Iraqi military in July launched an offensive to retake the predominantly Sunni-populated Anbar province, which is considered essential for pushing ISIS out of Iraq.

Anbar covers a vast area from Baghdad to the Syrian border. Hundreds of thousands of locals have fled the war-torn province to seek safer areas in the Kurdish-controlled north, exacerbating the ongoing refugee crisis in the Kurdistan region, where already more than 1.5 million refugees have fled.

Kurdish authorities hope the recapture of Ramadi will pave the way for the return of thousands of displaced families from the area who now live in the Kurdistan region.

chattels: SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region - Kurdish politicians moved key talks on the region’s presidency to Sulaimani on Sunday, with still no agreement on how and when to elect a new leader.

Rudaw reporter Erkan Ali said the fourth meeting between the political parties will resume Sunday morning at the Grand Millennium Hotel to discuss the next phase of regional politics after the presidential term of Masoud Barzani expired August 20.

Ali said the Barzani’s Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is believed to be presenting a new plan for the presidency, but no details of the proposal have been released. The media has been excluded from the sensitive, closed-door negotiations.

chattels: An official with the Gorran (Change) Movement told Rudaw’s Ali his party, led at the meetings by Omar Tawfiq Rahim, was not optimistic a deal would be reached at today’s meetings.

Exactly how the region will elect the next president is the main issue of disagreement, Ali said

chattels: Gorran, the Patriotic Union Kurdistan, Kurdistan Islamic Union and the Kurdistan Islamic Group want the Kurdistan region’s president to be elected in parliament, while the (KDP) is seeking a public election to directly elect the next president.

chattels: With the political stalemate in place, observers say Barzani is still calling the shots. Meanwhile, the tensions between parties have raised doubts among average Kurds who are all-too-familiar with intra-party disputes. Barzani, whose nephew is the region’s prime minister, has been president since 2005.

He was re-elected by nearly 70 percent in the region’s first direct presidential elections in 2009, and his term was extended for two years in 2013   chattels: http://ift.tt/1dh0hsK...

THE PROBLEM FOR MANY OF US IS WE JUST CAN NOT GET A GOOD PIECE OF VERIFIABLE CONSENSUS FILLED, INFORMATION TO BITE ON...WE DONT KNOW WHAT WE DONT KNOW...

chattels: I HAVE ACQUAINTANCES SAYING THAT # 3 WILL SUPPLANT OUR CURRENCY WITHOUT MUCH COMPENSATION

SWSD: ‹@chattels› aquaintences being....friends, or knowledgable people about this, thing

chattels: ‹@sczin11› OR AN EFFORT TO UNDERMINE ABADI IN THE " INNER CIRCLES "

sczin11: IT WOULD APPEAR, THAT MOST FEEL GOING FORWARD WILL NOT BE AN ISSUE...APPEARS THE CALLING FOR JUDICIAL CHANGE MUST OCCUR FIRST, THE REST WILL FOLLOW SUIT

chattels: I WONDER WHAT AMERI MEANS BY " TRANSFER OF POWER " ?
