Tuesday News Summaries and Commentaries
So the news continues to boil out of Iraq today.....Parliament passed the reforms proposed by PM Abadi without question....amid a rather full house, around 297 Parliament members in attendance.....nothing like the thought of losing your job to bring out the former absentee members....but I think their fate has already been decided.....
So much going on.....be careful that the Integrity Commission is looking at you....I hope not.....as for Maliki even his party is kicking him to the curb....when will charges be formally served against him.....
PM Abadi is the hero this week....pray for his safety and that his reforms will continue to push full steam ahead.

So the news continues to boil out of Iraq today.....Parliament passed the reforms proposed by PM Abadi without question....amid a rather full house, around 297 Parliament members in attendance.....nothing like the thought of losing your job to bring out the former absentee members....but I think their fate has already been decided.....

Parliament voted by majority on paper Abadi reform
How incredible....we've been seeing between 190 and 220 members of Parliament attending recent sessions...but today they seem to come out of the woodwork.....297.....yes....297 were in attendance.
When it is feared that one might be dismissed because of absenteeism one will show up....but guess what, one session does not promise you a position going forward for they will be looking at prior attendance. I wonder where the other 30 or so were at who did not show up today....their fate I am sure is sealed in camel dung now.
But the important thing....PM Abadi got his majority vote on his initial reforms....majority voting in favor of what he is proposing....oh the apple cart is being upset and overturned and the sour apples are rolling around in the dirt.....to bad....so sad for them.
Finance stopped all MPs, ministers and officials pension salaries pending new instructions
Finance Minister is stopping all pay for government employees and this includes pensions of former government employees as well until the dust settles and it becomes clearer who will be charged with corruption either now or in the past....be prepared to answer that one single question....."where did you get this?".......and pray you have adequate documentation.
PM Abadi got approval from the Parliament to work full steam ahead on his reforms that include abolishment of a number of high level positions in the government that include VP positions and Deputy PM positions as well as many other ministers, managers, governors and the like....who knows how many and who will be left once this sweeping removal is completed in the coming days and weeks.
Jubouri announce the arrival abandon the dual citizenship law to parliament
Speaker of Parliament announced the arrival of the law that prevents dual citizenship and holding of public office concurrently....this is one law that should pass in quick order.....we already know where the Speaker stands on this topic.
Prospects fade for Iraqi Kurdistan Eurobond debut
The outlook for the Kurds to grab a $500 million dollar loan from the EU is quickly fading away.....tied to continued low oil prices, tensions within the region and with Baghdad, as well as problems arising from area countries is not making much hay for the Kurds at this time.....looks like they will remain indebted to Baghdad for the foreseeable future.
Deputy: Government reforms will provide 7 to $ 10 billion a year budget
On Parliament deputy is predicting a windfall for the budget of $7-10 billion dollars per year after the cuts and abolishment of positions are completed within the government restructuring. Once the dust settles we shall see who and what remains to be accounted for and just how much money can be saved in this reform process for PM Abadi.
The Supreme Judicial: We will deal with complaints of corruption, whatever the position of the accused
The Supreme Judicial Council announced today that their doors would remain open and they would address any complaints that have to do with corruption regardless of the position of the accused....PM Abadi is encouraging the Judiciary to put together a group of trusted and well-known judges whose integrity is above reproach to investigate and prosecute the ones who are accused of corruption.
Jubouri gives people with dual citizenship of 30 days to drop gained or removal from the office
According to Speaker of Parliament, if you have a dual citizenship and are a member of Parliament you have 30 days in which to make a choice....move back to the country where your citizenship is located, or drop that dual citizenship and retain your Parliament position and focus on working for the well-being of the Iraqi citizens.
Pending activists .. Tale (7-5) Basbaik suitcases full of gold were seized at Baghdad airport
Indeed over the last 24 or so hours there has been much talk of Maliki's attempt to leave the country.....now to add to that fire of words comes another story alleging 5-7 bags of gold that were intended to be put aboard a plane leaving the country....this was gold that did not go through normal airport security measures but was caught at the last minute by airport sonar equipment while it was still located in what is said to be a Ministry of Foreign Affairs vehicle.....I would not want to be in the shoes of the official who allowed the gold to be placed in that ministry vehicle.
Quarrel with hands between defectors and the leaders of al-Maliki of the Dawa Party
Let's just say that a quarrel ensued at the residence of PM Abadi where influential members of the Dawa Party were meeting to make a decision about what to do with the current party Secretariat, Maliki....Maliki refuses to step down....but the party does not want to be affiliated with him any longer......so tempers flared.....at least for those die-hards who remain loyal to Maliki....a fight broke out.....but when the dust settled, Maliki is still the ousted individual from his PM position, now his VP position...and soon to be ousted as leader of his party.....I just hope they remove his loyal thugs as well.....looks like PM Abadi is in line to be the new partly leader.
Integrity issued arrest warrants for 316 responsible including ministers and deputies retired
The Integrity Commission is working overtime to bring to justice anyone who is being accused of wrong-doing that is associated with corruption.....of late they are issuing arrest warrants for 316 individuals that investigations have indicated their involvement in corruption, misappropriation of funds, or extortion or other related issues.....those who are being arrested or sought to be arrested include ministers and deputies, some of which are retired....they also include at least two prominent officials.....the head of Investments and the General Commander of the Armed Forces former office....watch for surprises in arrest announcements over the next few days.
Alusi: dismissal of al-Maliki from office is no longer enough
The President of the Civil Democratic Alliance bloc is saying that "dismissal" of Maliki is not enough....he needs to be arrested and tried for crimes that investigations show he has committed against Iraq and Iraqi citizens.
Parliamentary Integrity begins to investigate the files of corruption and emphasizes: We will take the accused to justice
The Integrity Commission has files open from 2004 and going forward and are assuring people they will investigate fully any alleged crimes of corruption or anything related to that crime and will push for complete justice to be served against those where charges are brought to the Judiciary.
House of Representatives reads eight draft laws, notably the social security and retirement
Parliament session began at 1:00 pm today and the group read eight draft law for the first time....they were busy bees after getting through the reform proposals put forth by PM Abadi in quick order....let the momentum continue for them and may they find it worth their time to tackle some of the more important laws this week.
Deputy: We will add paragraph cadre Central Bank Accounting parliamentary reform paper
One individual from the Liberal bloc is stating that a paragraph is being added to the paper reform voted on by Parliament today....this is the reform that was proposed by PM Abadi.....anyway a paragraph is alleged to have been added to this reform that would provide for reform within the CBI similar to what happens in the Judiciary....some type of accounting and control for the CBI to prevent future wasting of money.....
I'll need to see some further confirmation of this kind of action before I commit it to being completely factual at this point....one person's word just isn't enough with all the turmoil that exists in Iraq at the moment.
Jubouri: the Iraqi people will remain is the owner of the floor in the evaluation of the reform process
The Speaker of Parliament proclaimed today that the Iraqi people will remain the owners of the Parliament floor as far as evaluation of reform processes are concerned....he recognizes the work and effort of the demonstrators in helping to foster this reform to this point and will look to their opinion as things progress forward.
Al-Bayati: reform decisions and put everyone on the line to initiate change
With these latest proposals for reform that come from PM Abadi being approved by the Parliament and the Cabinet, it puts everyone who remains in government all at the starting line together to move forward as a unified group regardless of political alliance....they each have a responsibility to protect the rights of the people who remain concerned but optimistic as to a positive outcome for all of Iraq.....
But now is not the time to sit back and rest on one's laurels....now is the time for action to push forward with the proposed reforms and hold each other accountable for future actions....meanwhile those who are being accused of wrong-doing that relates to some form of corruption are being fully investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Legal expert: those covered by the abolition of their positions, including al-Maliki, they may not return to parliament
We spoke to this issue some yesterday.....and there still appears to be some confusion associated with it.....the initial thought was that if these officials are removed from office they may not return to the Parliament in the event of an opening....but this legal analyst is claiming that the only way for them to come back to Parliament is when an opening occurs....say a current MP dies.....then one could foreseeably be allowed back into Parliament.....not a healthy thought for the likes of Maliki....but I'm posturing that his political career is coming to a swift end anyway because of charges he will be facing.
Urgent Abadi hello approval of Parliament: I pledge to continue to reform and that cost me my life
This sounds like it is coming from PM Abadi.....but I assure you it is not....this has to be from one of his Deputy PM's or some other high ranking official who has been relieved of their position....he is thanking Abadi for taking the strong stance that he did against corruption and for doing what needs to be done to save Iraq.....even at the cost of this individual's political career...let the chips fall where they may...and let this reform continue with success.

Urgent Parliament determines the time to read the laws and voting upon the duration not to exceed 28 days
Looks like Parliament voted today to impose a strict timeline on itself for addressing new laws....no more of this dragging your feet on laws year after year.....they are saying that for the reading (of which there are generally two readings per law) and then a vote....should not take longer than 28 days to complete.....first reading....then 14 days to the second reading....and not to exceed another 14 days for a vote....let's see how well they follow this new rule.
Supreme Court certifies the convicted fugitive recovery Jassim Ayham al-Samarrai from the United States
The head of the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court announced today they will pursue through diplomatic channels with the US extradition of convicted fugitive al-Samarrai from the United States.
Corruption and "Fedayeen Saddam" Tjubran Jubouri to flee "likely" to France
It would appear that the Environment Minister al-Jubouri and his family have been in discussion with the French Embassy in Iraq to procure VISA's for 2 years because he is fearful of charges against him for corruption.....apparently a number of citizens have come forward with claims of his wrong-doing while in the position of Environment Minister....does not look good for him at this point.
Urgent Abadi directed to prevent the defendants of stealing public money to travel and bring them to eliminate
PM Abadi is putting the end to any travel plans for those who may appear on any list of the Integrity Commission as being suspected of corruption....he wants to be assured that no one leaves Iraq with the intent to further hide any funds that may have been taken.
So here is the news as I've seen it today.....oh my how it dovetails into what we heard last night on the CC....I know we have the notes posted by Frosty....but I would urge you to go back and listen to the CC if you have the chance....worthy of your time I believe.
