chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in a monthly oil report released Thursday said due to the long-standing budget impasse with Baghdad it had no choice but to increase its independent oil sales in June.

“The KRG was obliged to increase independent sales due to significant debt backlog arising from budget cut of 2014 imposed by federal government,” read the statement released by the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources.

According to the statement in the month of June, KRG has exported 17,130,639 barrels of crude oil, making up an average of 571,021 barrel per day. The crude oil was shipped to the port of Ceyhan in Turkey through a pipeline from the Kurdistan region.

chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan region – Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, who is also Commander in Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, has announced plans to form a Military Media Unit to handle combat reports and manage the press. “Through a decision by the Iraqi Council of Ministers, the Iraqi PM has decided to form a media unit inside the Iraqi Army.

The function of the unit will be to manage and control all the various reports and statements coming out of the military and combat fields,” said a statement released by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense on Thursday.

The media unit will provide reports originating from the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Iraqi Interior Minister, and the leadership of the Shiite militia movement known as the Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Units.

The goal of the unit is to create coherence and prevent contradictions among official reports and statements. This decision by the Iraqi PM came after a request from field commanders in the Iraqi Army.
