MVL:  Princess, from my admittedly limited study, NK bows to whatever the wishes are from China. I believe it's largely because of that influence that nobody's flattened that part of the Pacific Rim yet. Gotta go through Big Brother Beijing first, or so it appears to me.

PrincessDD:  NK urged to drop opposition to Seoul's joining of OSJD

snippet:Current members include Russia, North Korea, China, Cuba, Iran and Vietnam. East European countries and former Soviet Union states in Central Asia are also its members.

Seoul has been seeking to join the association in an effort to implement President Park Geun-hye's vision of promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula through a "Silkroad Express," a railroad network that would connect South Korea's port city of Busan to Europe via Pyongyang, Beijing and Siberia.

http://ift.tt/1H8xLkz

MVL:  Bingo. Thanks, Princess, for finding that.

PrincessDD:  The silk road cannot run through China to S. Korea without going through N. Korea.

PrincessDD:
So there is your WW3! they are in the way just a little tiny bit.

MVL:
Princess, if author Jim Rickards is correct, we are already embroiled in WWIII...but this time, it's currency, rather than guns, which are creating casualties.

PrincessDD:
Well that could be, but N. Korea is in the way of the Silk Road that is between China and S. Korea. They may align with Russia and China at some point.

DS:
All I care is that they start

PrincessDD:
For first time, Xi Jinping travels to region on North’s border

snippet:The visit may mean that Xi is willing to extend the eastern part of the over-land Silk Road to include Russia, Mongolia and North Korea,” said Jin Caorong, a professor at Renmin University’s International Relations School. “The over-land Silk Road basically goes west from Xi’an, Shanxi, but China is trying to include its northeastern area and bordering countries as well.”

http://ift.tt/1MxiXDc

MVL:  My gut says NK aligns with China. Moscow is further away from them, than is Beijing. The endgame there is government horsepower can appear out of nowhere a lot faster regionally, than can an influence from the Kremlin. It's better to save face, than lose...hmm, a three-letter word for keester...lol.

PrincessDD:
Chinese president makes symbolic visit to North Korea border area

Xi Jinping's unusual visit to an area that has registered economic growth far below China’s national average could be a sign the Chinese president is looking to resume friendlier relations with North Korea.

snippet:Yanbian, located in China's northeast Jilin province, could play a key role in Xi's plan to develop the hinterland that involves participation from North Korea, Russia and China.

The Tumen River Delta International Tourism Area is under development with North Korea, Russia and China involved in its construction. But these and other projects have stalled, due to lack of reform inside North Korea.

During his Wednesday visit, Xi visited the office of Zhongche, a recently merged railway company that could be an integral part of his "Silk Road Initiative" to improve China's land-based links to Europe and Asian neighbors.

Analysts in South Korea said Friday Xi's move may be to appease a borderland population that has grown increasingly worried after desperate and hungry North Koreans, some in military uniform, have either killed or attacked Chinese nationals since last September.

PrincessDD:  US trafficking report: When doing the right thing just ain't enough

snippet;Meanwhile, Washington quite expediently upgraded certain countries with blatant human trafficking problems, making them eligible to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which the US is championing as the new framework for trade across the Pacific. The reason for the push can be found in a remark President Obama made to Congress when he underscored that if the US is not the one writing the rules, "China will".

An epiphany, isn't it?

The TIP Report is not unlike its obnoxious older brother, the "Section 301" trade sanctions: On paper it sounds right and fair, but in practice it is being used for the self-serving political purposes of the US administration. These sanctimonious rules, written by the US, have had their legitimacy and credibility crushed by the Master of the Universe itself after it realised that they do not serve its other international interests.

Thailand has fallen out of favour with Washington ever since the military coup last year. The singular focus of the US and the West was on elections, which they blindly equate with democracy. They ignored the facts and the dreadful national state of affairs that led up to the events of May 22. We were indisputably on the brink of becoming a "failed state".

Punch drunk amid an onslaught of political and economic challenges, Thailand did not join the TPP talks. Spurned by the West, we ran straight into the arms of China. The Eagle and the Elephant have downgraded their ties from "estranged" to "divorced". The new Silk Route is now our road to who-knows-where.

Traveluvrs:
IF Aug 2nd brings a verifiable international currency, does that mean the currency can only change in 2% increments?  Or is Iraq able to go in and make a  substantial change at any time?  Thank you for the education.

:  traveluvrs - if my memory serves me right (and I could be wrong) Mary said the bonds could be 1095 but Iraq could reprice again later - I'm trying to look back through notes from recent calls that have been posted

MY LADIES
:  NO 2% IS THE STANDARD OR THE NORM ON FOREX, IRAQ CAN DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT WHENEVER THEY WANT TO DO AFTER THEY GET THEIR CURRENCY TURNED ON.

How China and Russia are running rings around Washington

A geopolitical "big bang" just happened in Eurasia, and it's not good for United States http://ift.tt/1H8xLkD
Princess DD: So China invited N. Korea to join the Silk Road Project in April.

On April 23, the Chinese ambassador met North Korea's Minister of Foreign Trade, Ri Ryong-nam, and expressed hope for the North to join the Silk Road project.

PrincessDD
:  Eurasian rail pilgrimage for 250 starts (July 15)In a video message at the ceremony, President Park Geun-hye said, “This expedition is one that holds the desire and dreams of our people for unification.”

Snippet: She continued, “That dream is for the history of the past 70 years, which divided North and South Korea, to end. And through communication and linking with the vast Eurasian continent, we will move toward a future of unification.”

The group will stop at major points on an envisioned Silk Road Express and hold events to promote trade, cultural and diplomatic exchanges.

The idea of the Silkroad Express is to link Korea with major railroads, such as the Trans-Siberian Railway, Trans-China Railway and Trans-Mongolian Railway.

But the railway would have to pass through North Korea.

The group held a banner with the slogan “One Dream, One Eurasia.”

Princess DD:
Another interesting point:

The project coincides with the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II and the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial rule from 1910 to 1945.

This year, Korea marks the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Russia and Mongolia.
