While we know better than to trust politician promises, we were surprised to read that today the GOP joined the Democrats in calling for a repeal of Gramm-Leach-Bliley, the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 pushed through by none other than Bill Clinton, and will seek a return to Glass-Steagall, the banking law launched in 1933 in the aftermath of the Great Depression meant to prohibit commercial banks from engaging in the investment business, and which according to many was one of the catalysts that led to the Global Financial Crisis.
According to The Hill, Paul Manafort, Donald Trump's campaign manager, told reporters gathered in Cleveland Monday that the GOP platform would include language advocating for a return of that law, which was repealed under President Bill Clinton, husband of, well you know...
“We also call for a reintroduction of Glass-Steagall, which created barriers between what big banks can do,” he said.
Including that language in the GOP platform comes shortly after Democrats agreed to similar language in their own, calling for an “updated and modernized version” of the law.

This is NOT going to be George W. Bush on an aircraft carrier saying "Mission Accomplished RV". I think we all knew that.. but it just needs to be stated again.
I have an analogy. Let's see if I can get this "framed" correctly
The newly renovated super-mega-tanker ship filled with liquid IQD has left dock in the secrecy of night. For those few longshoreman who have the privilege of access to the harbor at night, they all heard the commotion and the work being done at this berth with a ship called Iraq.
It's on a delivery mission to dock itself with all of the worlds ports and cargo distribution hubs, but first it must pass through a man made canal kinda like Panama or Suez.
First things first with any major canal crossing... the vessel must take on a temporary captain provided by the canal authority to navigate the ship safely through without loss of cargo, damage to the vessel, or even harm to it's crew.
Welcome Captain IMF to the helm please!! This ain't no Love boat folks... this is the IQD super tanker and those IMF / WB tug boats have been keeping the boat against the dock for WAY too long.
Well guess what. That super-mega-tanker just hit international waters and is most likely testing it's engine, gears, and navigation equipment while in route to final destination. The IMF captain is still on board staying the course because the load is too greatly valued to just be any other delivery
