SWSD: I did not sift through the whole article, because I wouldn't understand it even if it were originally written in plain english lol . So I just read the headlines and wait for others interpretations of it ;)
SWSD: my friend said he only read part of it. He said a few people were crying about it in DU, but the comments must have been deleted...
chattels: Ramadan 2016 begins in the evening of Sunday, June 5 and ends in the evening of Tuesday, July 5
SWSD: but then we always here from gurus that they even work through ramadan
chattels: If the Parliament is unable to convene and / or extend the session, it appears that the holiday will include Ramadan.
chattels: there may be " work " done, but Parliament will not likely be in session officially.
Doug_W: ahhh yes....good old Ramadan
chattels: The " working during Ramadan " is likely just guru rationalization that there is constant progress and to preserve / advance the " RV " any day and every day narrative, IMO

SWSD: ‹@chattels› that is why alot of us prefer "your" interpretations of the articles, rather than some gurus. Because even though some may take your views as negative, it is more along the lines of the truth....and helps dilute the koolaide! :)
chattels: I am generally positive and hopeful about OUR investment. I AM, like you, invested. I want there to be value to the IQD. I just object to the attendant bovine scatology from some.

Doug_W: Thanks "O".
chattels: Parliament has been " scheduled " to reconvene on the 10th ( Tuesday ). The question is who will be in attendance ? Can Parliament muster a quorum to do business ?
http://ift.tt/1Xh2icd
chattels: Abadi is " looking forward " to it and Jibourri is " calling " for it. We shall see, eh ?
chattels: No cabinet meeting today due to lack of a quorum.

chattels: Most of its members have refocused their efforts on forming a new opposition bloc, the “Reform Front,” first reported on April 27.
The Reform Front claims to have at least 98 members, consisting of 42 pro-Maliki Dawa Party members, all of the members from Iyad Allawi’s Wataniya Bloc, and an unverifiable number of members who defected from their parties. If the claim is accurate, then the Reform Front will become the largest bloc in the Council of Representatives (CoR), surpassing the State of Law Alliance which stands to lose substantial numbers to the Front.
chattels: The Reform Front is likely steered by former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, though several members have denied his involvement. Maliki has contested Abadi’s leadership of the Dawa Party since he lost the premiership in 2014 amidst growing domestic and international pressure for political change.
The recent resignation of Hassan al-Sinid on April 28, the placeholder for Maliki’s seat in the CoR during his tenure as Vice President, could indicate that Maliki looks to resume his seat in the CoR, an essential prerequisite for becoming Prime Minister. Maliki has denied the rumors of his return.

Maliki has denied the rumors of his return."
chattels: The largest bloc in Iraq’s parliament constitutionally has the right to select the Prime Minister and form the Council of Ministers after general elections or after a no-confidence vote in the Prime Minister. Maliki formed a government in 2010 even though he did not win the elections outright by creating a legal challenge about how to define the “largest bloc.” The Front’s emergence could facilitate Maliki’s return as prime minister if the parliament ousts Abadi.
chattels: The withdrawal of confidence from Abadi is also not likely imminent over the next few weeks barring an unexpected event that creates a further state of emergency.
chattels: Maliki, therefore, is most likely to try to ride the political wave by positioning himself as a potential unifier who can bridge the gap between the Reform Front and other blocs – a gap that he has helped create and maintain.
chattels: It is not even clear whether the CoR will even be able to resume sessions soon. It is next scheduled to meet on May 10, and it can only make decisions if a quorum of 165 members is reached.
chattels: The graphic demonstrates the tumultuous current state of the CoR and the difficulty for a session to achieve quorum.
chattels: " Political impasse will therefore likely persist."

chattels: The cause of Iraq’s political paralysis is neither ideological nor sectarian. In fact, most of the main actors in the continuing dispute are Shiite Islamists. The disagreement is instead based on mutual distrust, which is fueled by the incompetence and corruption that have formed the basis of Iraq’s political system since 2003. That dynamic has made it impossible for state institutions to present any viable solutions to the crisis.
chattels: Any new Iraqi government’s first priority should be to organize fresh elections on an entirely different basis from how they have been conducted in the past. There are two simple and necessary changes that should be made immediately.
First, members of Iraq’s Parliament are some of the best-paid legislators in the world. This has had the effect of attracting candidates for the wrong reasons. Salaries, benefits and pensions for members of Parliament should be significantly reduced.
chattels: Abadi already tried to reduce salaries.
