The US does not yet have a "complete strategy" for helping Iraq regain territory from Islamic State (IS), President Barack Obama has said.
He said the Pentagon was reviewing ways to help Iraq train and equip its forces.
Mr Obama also said a full commitment to the process was needed by the Iraqis themselves.
He had earlier met Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Germany.
IS has recently made gains in Iraq despite US-led coalition air strikes.
In May the militants seized Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, Iraq's largest province, as well as the Syrian town of Tadmur and the neighbouring ancient ruins of Palmyra.
"We want to get more Iraqi security forces trained, fresh, well-equipped and focused and (Mr) Abadi wants the same thing so we're reviewing a range of plans for how we might do that," Mr Obama told a news conference.
He said all countries in the international coalition were ready to do more to help train Iraqi security forces.

So this week out pops a couple more articles. I have included these two articles below and a summary of them. I feel they are so very important for all of us to understand what is being said in these articles. These are definitely some of those juicy nuggets of information we all wait for.
These articles are not coincidental and is written in the aftermath of the recent Paris G7 conference held with the seven most industrial nations over this past weekend. So if you want to know what happened in this latest conference, PM Al- Abadi and Dr. Allawi are telling us.
Article 1 is an article that is written from an interview with Dr. Iyad Allawi. We do all remember Allawi - don’t we? He seems to have been quietly working in the background these days (as far as the press is concerned) but I can assure you he is working hard. His main role now is heading the Reconciliation Reforms effort.
Okay – so what is Dr Allawi trying to tell the people of Iraq (and us)?
Let me summarize this long article 1 and highlight the main points. My comments are embedded within the article in bold.
Article 2 below is written from a news briefing with the prime minister al-Abadi who also attended the G7 summit conference. We can see how optimistic Abadi is about Iraq and the future of his country. Remember though that Abadi is from the Dowa party as is Maliki. Many has asked me why they do not just do away with Maliki and his goons. This is the reason why since Abadi too might get accused of issues within the same party. So they must walk softly for now but they have a plan and it includes rounding up all these mischief doers in a swift movement when the time is right. I suspect this will be accomplished before the summer is over and before we see any RV. I have always said this and I still confirm this fact to you today.
