chattels: Friday, May 20, 2016 Short Explanation Of Islamic State’s Bombing Campaign In Iraq’s Baghdad Baghdad is currently facing a wave of bombings by the Islamic State. That is due to two factors. 1st IS is losing on the battlefield and is turning towards more insurgent and terrorist attacks in response. The capital has been the main victim of this shift.
At the same time, it is the time for the annual spring offensive, which has been going on since 2004. That has always been characterized by more bombings, especially in Baghdad. May 2016 isn’t even over yet and there have already been as many car bombings in the governorate since August 2015, and as many suicide bombers as April 2014. Unfortunately for Baghdad once this wave is over a Ramadan campaign is likely to follow it during the summer.

chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—The office of Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister condemned in a statement on Saturday violent protests that “cause tensions and turmoil” in the Iraqi capital Baghdad while standing by the demands of the Iraqi people.
“We vehemently oppose the use of people and their grievances to create chaos and turmoil,” said the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet of ministers in a statement.
“And we fully stand by the rightful demands of the Iraqi people for their means of living and stability, but these demands must be pursued in a civilized and peaceful manner.”
The Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani’s office said that it respected the legitimate grievances of the Iraqi people and their rightful demands, adding meanwhile that the protests “should not be used to cause tensions or for attacks on government institutions, violation of the law and destabilizing the country as that would only sideline people’s demands.”
The statement from the Kurdish government added: “We therefore express our full support for Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi’s efforts to preserve Iraq’s stability and its government institutions.”
