Post From Wealthwatch.world Chat Room 8-5-15
Wealthwatch Late Night Chat  8-5-15  Part 2 of 2

KiwiDoc: ‹@chattels› Good evening wise man, how goes the battle?
chattels: i am " dog paddling "  How art thou ?

KiwiDoc: better than treading ah?   Good, spent the day in radiology reading films, good to be home and having a break

chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› keeping my head above water
KiwiDoc: head above water is the concept.....well done

chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› Are you " stateside " ?
KiwiDoc: No New Zeland, heading back for a break next month or Oct.

chattels: or " home " in New Zealand ?    good

KiwiDoc: Home in NZ, should say my apt.   Not friendly immigration wise for a 66 y/o  - afraid I will be a drain on the health system I recon
~~~
chattels: Do you have to return to the states every so often ?
KiwiDoc: No work permit good for a year   but only a year.....
chattels: How long have you been there ?
KiwiDoc: 4 years in Nov
chattels: so your permit is renewable on an annual basis ?
KiwiDoc: you would think they would love me by now but....... :grin:
KiwiDoc: yes every May
chattels: :)
KiwiDoc: 4 week wait once paperwork is in  - physical every two years required
chattels: do they need physicians in NZ ?   is there a " shortage " I mean ?
KiwiDoc: yes there is a shortage so for now I'm good  - In a year I'll be fellowed so then I could likely stay but not sure I want to
chattels: What percentage of physicians there are trained in NZ ?
KiwiDoc: No bar-b-que here :grin:
chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› :)
KiwiDoc: Majority are, no training positions here if your not a kiwi
KiwiDoc: not totally true, I'm in urgent care and it is the only t raining that doesn't require you be a resident
 chattels: Is medicine there " socialized " akin to the UK ?
KiwiDoc: that's why I'm in it
KiwiDoc: yes
KiwiDoc: the public system is short of almost every speciality, long waits for access to specialists unless it's an accident or you have private insurance
chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› I understand that Canada is like that
KiwiDoc: example only specialists can order CT or MRI
KiwiDoc: Canadians come across from Toronto for CT's MRI's because it's quicker in Detroit
KiwiDoc: true in other locations where major cities are near US centers
chattels: one would think that with a shortage of specialist that diagnostics would be encouraged for the less experienced ?
KiwiDoc: Dental isn't covered except for extractions, $40 a tooth, dentists are cash only and do very well
KiwiDoc: One might think that but they are trying to hold down costs at every opportunity
KiwiDoc: they figure you have to be more experienced to know if you need the study or not
KiwiDoc: you can be seen for knee injuries quickly if you are a "national caliber athlete" otherwise 3-6 month wait
chattels: ouch
KiwiDoc: When I was in my first year of training I had a guy who had an MI and he waited for 4 days to get to a cath lab.....he asked me why he wasn't being transfered each day and I told him i thought they wanted to see if he was going to live. The consultant overheard me and didn't think it was very funny. I in turn asked him why he hadn't been transferred and he couldn't answer me.
KiwiDoc: he was in his 40's
 chattels: a recreational rugby injury for a blue collar worker could cause him to lose his job and be devastating financially i would think
KiwiDoc: true and there is alot of that.....the gov't insurance pays his wage while he is layed up. but you have to be off work for 7 days or it's sick leave
KiwiDoc: lots of recreational injuries here, everybody plays rugby, girls netball, lots of knee injuries, Achilles injuries
chattels: there is some safety net then
KiwiDoc: yes
chattels: if the government has to support the injured it occurs to me that it may be cheaper to provide more expedient health care
KiwiDoc: the population here is young, care for the elderly is not up to par, the facilities that house older kiwi's are not happy to be questioned about the care of their loved ones and if they are, the pt runs the risk of having to leave that facility
KiwiDoc: two years ago they accepted only 1 trainee into the Urology Program, 1 for the whole country
chattels: what is the population of NZ ?
KiwiDoc: I knew her, smart girl but only 1, that's why there is such a wait, plus it keeps the consultants happy beccause their positions are secure and demand for them is high
KiwiDoc: growing, about or near 4 million
chattels: this is interesting : http://ift.tt/1EaEz0Y... http://ift.tt/1gMooSS
KiwiDoc: the paper said recently 30000 Chinese come into the country, not sure if that is monthly or yearly but the average price of a house in Auckland is 1 million dollars
chattels: about the population as South Carolina
chattels: The life expectancy at birth in New Zealand is 80.93 while in The United States it is 79.56.
] KiwiDoc: funny they use less electricity because of the cost and people are willing to be cold....the majority of houses have little to no insulation, but it rarely goes below freezing on the north island, south island is a different story
KiwiDoc: People don't see heating their house as a necessity
KiwiDoc: the building I live in has not heat or AC and it's relatively new
chattels: very interesting
KiwiDoc: portable heaters are used....
KiwiDoc: the majority of the country is 2 lane roads. The major citys have motorways about 20 miles total before and leaving the city
KiwiDoc: Its a 7 hour drive from here to Wellington, and it's 2 lane roads once you are out of auckland basically  - Not many straight stretches I must admit
KiwiDoc: all that being said, the people are lovely, very nice, lots of Pacific Islanders, the cultural makeup is changing with the influx of Chinese and the middle eastern population has increased. Lots from Iraq
 chattels: really ?
KiwiDoc: Birka's are rare but not that uncommon
chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› How long have been dinar watching ?
KiwiDoc: for about 2.5 years
KiwiDoc: very happy I never bought reserves, always bought currency
chattels: the Kurds have been rather quiet of late
chattels: makes me wonder a bit
KiwiDoc: makes one wonder, I saw your post about the bombings in Bagdad, that isn't good for PR
KiwiDoc: but nothing compared to Chicago though so go figure
KiwiDoc: though
 chattels: i do not know about the statistical comparison with baghdad, but Ramadi and Fallujah are considerably higher than the worst areas in America
chattels: on the order of 40x's more violent per capita
 chattels: the most violent neighborhood in America is outside of St. Louis from what I have read
chattels: One year later, struggle continues for Yazidis DAHUK, Iraq — Izzat Abbas, along with a group of men and children, took refuge in the shade by a prefabricated cabin in a refugee camp for displaced Yazidis.
They chat and occasionally laugh while they try to keep their spirits up. But their sunburned faces show more exhaustion than content. The temperature is 47 degrees Celsius (116.6 Fahrenheit) and there is no electricity, which causes the camp residents to flee cabins they described as being as hot as "ovens." Read more: http://ift.tt/1U6ADse...
http://ift.tt/1gMooST
chattels: "It's just unbearable," Abbas, 40, said of the excessive heat. “There is little electricity. We get it for three hours and then no electricity for the next three hours. We are given water [by the government] only one hour per day."
KiwiDoc: that is terrible
chattels: A sense of loss and despair is common in those camps. As if losing their homes and valuables was not enough, many have to grapple with systemic obstacles that make their lives much harder
 KiwiDoc: so the tariff's and taxes have been initiated without the money revalued, how does that make sense
chattels: many " ........... lost their Iraqi national identity documents. Khalaf has been trying to obtain a new one, as in the rigidly bureaucratic Kurdish system the national ID card is needed for almost everything."
chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› several theories i think
KiwiDoc: makes you wonder though, the politicians are or one would think not suffering like the people, so there will be increasing unrest
chattels: it may be that the tariffs are essential to WTO membership and membership essential to an acceptable increase in value to the currency
chattels: politicians detached from the people ? :)
 KiwiDoc: you would think thought that they would happen together wouldn't you?
chattels: not a strange concept, eh ?
KiwiDoc: Gee interesting though isn't it, just like here or I mean the US
KiwiDoc: but here to now that you mention it, nurse's got not pay raise, ministers pay raise was something over 9%
chattels: what Iraq wants / needs may not be what they can do at present
KiwiDoc: very true
chattels: I for one think that Iraq is less in control of the value of their currency than others
KiwiDoc: and as was mentioned the other night on a late chat I had with Doug likely since Abadi is from the same party as Maliki, some of his people are trying to hide some of their past I would imagine, plus the longer the CBI waits' the more money can end up missing....
chattels: earlier I stated the following, " If I had " x" buying power and not enough currency to buy what I wanted and could declare what I had to be worth more so that I could pay more of my debt or buy more of what I needed than I might do so, but who would accept such a self serving declaration of value ? "
KiwiDoc: No doubt, I have thought for a long time that the only reason this hasn't happened yet was there is a money grab, and like you said, not just in Iraq
chattels: Abadi, and even Maliki, are constrained by what their party will support
KiwiDoc: and as long as the price of oil remains low, they are in a catch 22, plus with Iran coming online, that means more oil and a lower price.
chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› it is a security, finance and political nightmare
KiwiDoc: and that is what makes this investment so precarious and yet what might be astonishingly profitable
chattels: Maliki was and Abadi is - same party
 chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› with great reward there is great risk - if it was so certain then everyone would have IQD
KiwiDoc: right I knew that, which is why I said what I said, some switched allegiances but remained unchanged as to who they were
chattels: I have never claimed to be smart - i just hope to be lucky - crumbs from the table
KiwiDoc: I had lots of folks tell me this was a scam
KiwiDoc: I have no doubt there were and are scammers, but the currency itself isn't, IMHO
chattels: most of my friends would not touch it and believe that I am a dreamer - they may be right
chattels: agreed
KiwiDoc: Well being a dreamer isn't all bad, and I don't say that because I am one as well, but who has the last laugh laughs the best as the saying goes.
chattels: this is not for the weak of heart or the thin of wallet
KiwiDoc: correct
KiwiDoc: I have never bought what I felt I couldn't afford to lose. now it's not a fine single malt, or a good cigar but, knowing there is a chance to change the destiny of my grandchildren and many others who could benefit from my willingness to dream, that is where I get my juice, just the thought that maybe just maybe I can do something great with this dream is more than enough to venture the risk....like it's said, no guts, no glory
chattels: " THESE are the times that try men's souls.............................. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value."
KiwiDoc: Probably more important, the money isn't it, it truly isn't about the money, its about what could be done with it....
KiwiDoc: Love that quote
chattels: ‹@KiwiDoc› we think very much the same. This is potentially a multi - generational event. A once in a millineum opportunity.
KiwiDoc: agreed
chattels: Money is not the aim, per se, but financial independence, the ability to practice random acts of kindness and generosity drives me.
chattels: To whom much has been given shall much be required.
KiwiDoc: likewise, I have wanted to put in place things that would honor my dad and his dedication to where I was brought up, Aberdeen Washington, and help to lift that community up
chattels: I read somewhere that money will not make one happy, but it is more comfortable weeping in a Mercedes than on a bicycle. :)
KiwiDoc: Yes, a whole new set of responsibilities awaits
KiwiDoc: and futuristic thinking will be a necessity
chattels: agreed
chattels: We shall see what providence has in store for us.
KiwiDoc: I have said many times I know God has a plan, I just wish I knew his plan...
chattels: the book says that he has plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future, eh ?
chattels: Jeremiah
KiwiDoc: and I trust that plan
chattels: Let's have a cigar and a bottle of scotch whiskey when this is over and talk about doing some good.
KiwiDoc: I would consider that an honor and a privilege
KiwiDoc: so we can keep in touch
chattels: “We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.” ― Konstantin Jireček
KiwiDoc: Amen
chattels: I like tha second part of that quote as opposed to the first
KiwiDoc: likewise
