Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters in New York that there were no plans to extend military operations to Iraq. "We were not invited or asked," Lavrov said.
"We don't come if we're not invited." Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had deployed 50 warplanes and helicopters in Syria, the state-run RT television reported.
It said the fleet includes the latest Su-24M and Su-25 ground attack planes. In the interview with France 24, Abadi criticized the United States, saying it was not doing enough.

Russia’s swift deployment of its military to Syria caught the West by surprise. Within weeks, Moscow deployed expeditionary forces, some special forces, tanks and fighter jets to reinforce its presence.
It was a direct challenge to the United States-led coalition that has been conducting airstrikes against the Islamic State for more than a year. Despite Washington’s call for de-escalation in the crisis, Russia conducted its first airstrikes on Wednesday giving only a one-hour notice to the US. Russia’s motives in Syria have been hotly debated by policy makers and experts who are watching Syria and the Middle East.
Some believe Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions can be attributed to his desire for the Kremlin to become an even bigger player on the world stage. Others say American’s lack of leadership and strategic success have opened a vacuum in Syria that Russia wishes to fill.
Assad recently said his army was exhausted by the fight against ISIS and various opposition groups. Russia has steadfastly provided Damascus with military aid and has a naval base in the Syrian city of Tartus. Keeping Assad in power will preserve the base, which is vital for Russia’s influence in the region.

The instinctive solution would be partition into smaller states where each community could seek refuge amongst their own, but areas with mixed populations and an international community that does not want more states militate against this fix.
More decentralization, autonomy, federalism and even confederalism then come to mind as the most viable way out for not only Syria, but Iraq, Yemen and Libya as well. These would offer people a way to “forge an agreement to live together peacefully.”
