OOTW: Iran expects surge in food exports to Iraq HomeIranEconomy Sat Oct 24, 2015 4:49PM Iran says it expects its food exports to Iraq to rise after the anticipated removal of economic sanctions against it.

Iran says it expects its food exports to Iraq to rise after the anticipated removal of economic sanctions against it. Iran said on Saturday that it expects its food exports to Iraq to rise after the economic sanctions against it are removed as a result of the landmark nuclear breakthrough with the P5+1 that was reached in July.

Mohammad-Reza Mortazavi, the president of Iran Food Industries Associations, has told the local media that the removal of the sanctions will lead to a boost in imports of wheat from Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine. Accordingly, he said, this will lead to a surge in exports of ready-to-cook food items to other countries including Iraq.

Mortazavi added that the removal of the sanctions will lead to the imports of a wide range of food products into Iran. He said the most important products will be dairies, pasta and cereals. The official further emphasized that there will specifically be a boost in joint investments with European food firms to import cereals and export finished products to other countries.

This, he said, could start from next April, Tasnim news agency reported. Mortazavi further emphasized that the removal of the sanctions will reduce the costs for Iranian food industries by at least 20 percent. This, he said, will be mainly due to the fact that Iran will be again able to use SWIFT services in banking transactions for imports of raw materials.

chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Two Islamic State (ISIS) militants surrendered to Peshmerga forces near Gwer late Friday, said Sirwan Barzani, commander of the front some 50 miles south of Erbil.

"Last night, at around 10pm, two ISIS militants surrendered to the Peshmerga in the village of Sultan Abdulla," said Barzani.

To make sure those who surrender are not disguised suicide bombers, Barzani told Rudaw, the Peshmerga ask the ISIS militants to get undressed and leave clothes and possessions behind. "They know if they stay with the group their lives would be at stake or they may be killed on day in assaults," Barzani said of the growing number of ISIS defections.

Four other ISIS militants surrendered to the Kurdish forces near Gwer earlier this month. “We fled for two reasons, fearing death and starvation,” One of the four ISIS militants told Rudaw. “There is no trust within the organization [ISIS], if they suspect a militant they will kill him right away."

With several militants handing themselves over to the Peshmerga on the Kirkuk front the beginning of October the number of ISIS defectors this month adds up to 15. chattels: http://ift.tt/1dh0hsK...

chattels: ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani praised Joshua L. Wheeler who lost his life freeing ISIS hostages as a brave soldier as he thanked the US government for its support of the Kurds.

“On behalf of Kurdistan Regional Government and Kurdish people, I express my condolences to the family and friends of the brave soldier, and I wish speedy recovery for the wounded Peshmerga,” said PM Barzani’s office in a statement.

Barzani expressed gratitude for US military, political and diplomatic support for the Kurds in their fight against Islamic State (ISIS). Joshua L. Wheeler, 39, was killed Thursday when American and Kurdish commando forces raided an ISIS prison near Hawija where they freed 70 hostages and killed and captured a number of militants.

According to US military officials, the special operation was conducted at the request of the Kurdish government to free prisoners who faced imminent execution.

The US military maintains an operational base in the Kurdistan Region and works closely with the Peshmerga in fighting ISIS along a 1050-KM border.  chattels: http://ift.tt/1dh0hsK...
