China will be helping out the Syrian government in the fight against Islamic State (ISIS) by sending “military advisers,” media reports have claimed.
....
“The Chinese will be arriving in the coming weeks,” a Syrian army official told the Lebanon-based news website Al-Masdar Al-‘Arabi.
The report claims that a Chinese naval vessel is on its way to Syria with dozens of “military advisers” on board. They will reportedly be followed by troops.
The Chinese army, the biggest in the world -known as the People’s Liberation Army -count for 2.3 million soldiers.
The ship is said to have passed the Suez Canal in Egypt and be making its way through the Mediterranean Sea.
According to the website, the advisers will be joining Russian personnel in the Latakia region.
Meanwhile, an Israeli military news website, DEBKAfile, has cited military sources as saying that a Chinese aircraft carrier, the Liaoning-CV-16, has already been spotted at the Syrian port of Tartus on the Mediterranean coast. It was said to be accompanied by a guided missile cruiser.

Thunderhawk: ‘It’s a Whole New War Now’: Western Powers to Have Strategy Shift in Syria
Russia’s participation in the fight against ISIL in Syria could bring some major changes in the balance of power in the Middle East, Semyon Bagdasarov, the director of the Center for the Middle East and Central Asian Studies, said.
On Wednesday, Russia launched airstrikes on ISIL targets in Syria following a request from President Bashar Assad. The Syrian government is fighting a number of opposition forces and radical Islamist militant organizations.
Bagdasarov thinks the ongoing airstrike campaign against ISIL has so far been successful.
"The results of first airstrikes enable the Syrian army to move further into the line of contact with terrorist groups and take control, from what I understand, of the highway between Homs and Damascus. That's why airstrikes are good help to the Syrian army and quite an effective operation," Bagdasarov said.
The political expert added that some countries in the region, such as Saudi Arabia, will try to hinder the Russian operation in Syria.
The Saudis might start re-arming the terrorist organizations, such as al-Nusra Front, Jaush al-Islam (The Army of Islam) and Jaish al-Fatah (The Army Conquest) so that they have modern anti-aircraft missiles to counter Russian planes.
Furthermore, the United States will attempt to bring together various groups of Syrian opposition forces to make them fight against the al-Assad and Russian forces.
"Together with their allies, the Americans will try to consolidate Syrian opposition forces of various kinds. Similar to what they did in Afghanistan, creating a number of Mujahedeen groups," Bagdasarov explained.
At the same time, the United States and its allies will try to tug away the Kurdish resistance forces of Peshmerga to fight on the side of "moderate" Syrian opposition against the army of al-Assad, the political scientist said.
The United States will now sit back and watch how Russian airstrikes are conducted, what targets do they hit and with what purpose. The US Air Force reduced its own airstrikes, letting ISIL to recover a little bit, meanwhile closely monitoring the overall situation.
It's a big game now and the US government needs to cautiously think through its future actions. Syria has become the board of a complicated chess game and a series of significant political moves will soon take place in the region.
"There is a whole different war now," Bagdasarov concluded.

Thunderhawk: Differences on Syria Should Not Endanger Russia-Israel Ties – Netanyahu
Different policies toward Syria should not derail mutual understanding between Russia and Israel, Benjamin Netanhyahu said.
Russia and Israel pursue different goals in Syria but this should not endanger the rapport between the two states, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
“We don’t want to go back to the days when Russia and Israel were on adversarial positions, I think we have changed the relationship and it is, on the whole, good,” Netanyahu told CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS.
He added that the military contacts between Russian and Israeli chiefs of staffs should “arrange deconfliction” as two states have “different goals” in Syria “that should not clash”.
In the last months, the Israeli Air Force have carried out a number of airstrikes in Syrian territory, in retaliation to rocket fire attributed to militants and against alleged Hezbollah weapon convoys.
During his meeting with Putin on September 21, Netanyahu vowed to take every step to stop the opening of a "second front against us" by Hezbollah militants in the Golan Heights, a territory disputed by Israel and Syria.
Hezbollah, a paramilitary and political organization with roots in Lebanon's Shiite population, was established in the 1980s, and since that time has engaged in military opposition to Israel's occupation of Lebanon.
Hezbollah actively supports Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces against several opposition and radical Islamist militant groups, including the Islamic State.

Thunderhawk: India, Africa to forge common cause against Western trade bullying
New Delhi, Oct 4: India and the 54 countries of Africa are expected to join forces at a mega summit later this month to form a united front to counter perceived Western bullying, notably by the US, over global trade negotiations ahead of an upcoming WTO ministerial meet to be held in Nairobi in December.(Read: Indian Bank revises rates for FCNR deposits)
Trade officials from India and Africa are already into negotiations ahead of the Third India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) being held here October 26-30, to firm up a joint front that will seek to protect the interests of developing countries in the face of Western pressure to succumb to laws seen as tailored to suit their interests.
The 10th ministerial conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), to be held in Nairobi on December 15-18, is likely to see the developed world led by the US and the EU in a stand-off against developing countries led by India, China and others, over protecting their interests. The forging of an alliance between India and the 54 African countries assumes all the more importance in the face of two mega regional trading agreements being negotiated – the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the US and the EU and the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) among 12 countries including the US, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Japan.
Many of the developed countries of the two groupings are keen to see that the “high standards” of these agreements are imported into the WTO corpus. India is concerned that the TPP and TTIP agreements, that it is not part of, may seek to set international phyto-sanitary standards and factory standards for goods that India and developing countries like it are not yet ready to measure up to.
The two US-led mega trade groupings, being aggressively pursued by the Barack Obama administration, are expected to go beyond WTO standards and protection measures for intellectual property, environment and labour. The standards they set up are also expected to put constraints on India’s pharmaceutical sector, which produces vital generic drugs at cheap rates for the masses.
Another alarming factor is that foreign investors can file complaints against governments for not adhering to standards or any other issue at dispute panels under a special mechanism as part of the mega agreements, which would put constraints on countries like India. India and developing countries like in Africa are not yet ready to meet the high norms that the two trading blocs are seeking to impose.
The negotiations at the IAFS would seek to form a support base of partnership in countering such heavy-handedness from big blocs, said a source. Besides forming a common partnership on international trading concerns, the India-Africa Forum Summit would also see India and the 54 African countries forming a partnership on global issues like reform of the UN Security Council for greater representation and on climate change.
The discussions on climate change are set to figure in a major way at the summit, especially ahead of Conference of the Parties in Paris next month. Terrorism, especially in the wake of terror groups like Boko Haram, Al-Shabaab and Islamic State, spreading their network and activities in the continent would also feature in a big way at the IAFS. Countering terror, sharing information and forging a united front would feature in the talks. Skilling of their large burgeoning youth population, which is a matter of concern for both sides, would also be a major focus area of talks at the summit.
