Thursday News Summaries and Commentaries

At long last here are some news summaries for the Family.....Maliki is still acting up I see and is trying to give President Masum the grounds he needs to bring an end to his VP role.....we edge ever closer to the 1st and those magical letters "T and T"......and as we do so we see efforts being made still to reduce salaries of the top dogs in the government......a whole raft of dogs that would bring some "fat" money back into the till....and life goes on.

Labor announces setting up a fund to grant loans with a capital of 150 billion dinars

The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has made arrangements for 150 billion dinars to be made available for loans for small "projects" that might include providing aid to those seeking work as the government works diligently to get citizens back to work to reduce unemployment and also provide stimulus to the economy at the same time

The position of the presidency and the prime minister of al-Maliki's remarks against Saudi Arabia

I, President Masum, disavow any knowledge or complicency towards any words uttered by my VP Maliki.....his words and opinions do not express the beliefs of the office of President of Iraq.....President Masum will continue to work towards fostering a better relationship with Saudi Arabia despite the words and actions of Maliki.....in other words Masum is mad and upset over what Maliki has said and will not stand for such disrespect from one of his VP's.....standby there is more to come on this subject.

Economist: Iraq to take advantage of its relationship with Iran for the development of economic situation

Here is the opinion of one economist from within Iraq thinking that Iraq needs to develop a relationship with Iraq that will provide for the further development of economic trade with Iran which he believes will help grow the Iraqi economy....be careful of your bedfellows......he pushes for continued imports of materials and goods......but why not see Iraq as a nation capable of providing these own goods and materials for its people rather than having to go outside the country for almost every thing.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter arrives in Iraqi capital on unannounced visit

Surprise visit by the US Defense Secretary.....I can imagine that is probably the only way he can get into Baghdad these days after his disparaging remarks about the Iraqi Army earlier this year.....much head nodding and political posturing is going on with this trip.....stroking of egos it would seem....or is Carter trying to save his own face in front of the Iraqi leaders......he is no statesman....nor is he a military strategist.....just someone pushing a pre-made agenda, speaking the party line.

Conscious / Send a card the draft national law to the Ministry of State for Provincial Affairs and Parliament

The COM has sent a new draft law to Parliament....the Standard Card National Law.....proposing that this law be accelerated to get it worked through Parliament as swiftly as possible.....this is the national card that would be issued to all citizens over the next couple of years.....a card that may facilitate the delivery of oil payments to citizens.....yes the long awaited fourth part to the HCL.....note they may have slipped and referred to this as the "crude national card".....I'm liking that.

Deputy Kurdish region reveals the conclusion of an oil agreement with Turkey spanning 50 years

In my opinion this agreement does not amount to a great deal of anything.....the Kurds have a pipeline built to carry oil through Turkey to their port of Ceyhan and this is the main and probably only means of export of any Kurd oil from the region at this time.....so what other options would the Kurds have.....maybe others will open up in the future but right now this is the only game in town for them.....

So....ho-hum....no big deal.....meanwhile the squabble with Baghdad continues...they said....he said.....we are delivering oil but SOMO says they aren't.....bottom line who controls the purse-strings here....Baghdad.....

The Kurds need to figure out how to make SOMO/Baghdad understand what they are doing and just how much oil they are truly exporting at any given time......negotiations....give and take....that leads to an understanding and agreement by all.

Law is accused of obstructing political parties "oil and gas" law and the Kurdistan: the right to reject the confiscation of the provinces and territories

OH MERCY ME....Maliki's State of Law caught and accused of obstructing the political process when it comes to the HCL and the Kurd....how can that be.....State of Law is such a team player......NOT.....

They take the pushing and twisting of the knife very seriously....and will do it over and over again at any opportunity.....and the fight between the Kurds and Baghdad well we all know how that is becoming yet another stick in the mud.....spoiled and missed opportunity it would seem.....this law has been kicked down the road since 2007 and they seem no closer to any resolution that 8 years ago....what a shame and missed opportunity for so many Iraqis.

Iraq still needs Massive Int’l Support

The UNSC is saying that Iraq continues to need much support from the International arena....the Iraqis need to implement with vigor their effort to overcome the current economic crisis as well as the war against terrorism....but they desperately need funding and other support to make this happen....they need to continue to push for national reconciliation for all political entities and continue to focus on the growth of their economy.

Baghdad disassociate itself from al-Maliki's remarks on Saudi Arabia

Remember earlier I promised more.....here it comes....Baghdad is falling all over itself trying to distance Maliki from the official position of President Masum and the Iraqi government....open ones mouth and insert foot, leg, knee....and so forth....way to go Maliki......a ticket out of town you've finally earned I would think.....still there is more....wait for it.

Urgent .. Maliki refuses to attend an emergency meeting .. after being summoned by the President of the Republic!

Maliki turns his nose up at President Masum and says....I'm not coming to any stinking meeting.....I don't care what you say or want.....I said what I said.....and I stand on it.....meanwhile Masum is working diligently to repair any damage made to the Saudis letting them know that Maliki's foul ball is not representative of how he or the Iraqi government wish to be perceived by the Saudis.....I still think there is more coming.....wait for it.....we could see Maliki turned loose on waivers.....his freedom perhaps about to be brought within a noose.

Reduce the salaries of presidencies seeks to provide 70 billion dinars per year of 5 thousand employees

So 70 billion dinars could be shaved from salaries of Iraqi governmental officials.....that is mucho moola.....not enough to eliminate the deficit....but could put a sizable dent in the process....the process is good enough for the top dogs of the government why not a great many others as well....all are likely overpaid for what little work they actually perform.

Infallible threatens to use his constitutional right to sack Maliki

I knew there was more.....TADA.....President Masum doesn't like being made a fool of and then ignored.....he's hopping mad at Maliki.....mad enough to threaten to fire the snake.....oh let it be....let it be....speak those words of wisdom.....let it be.
OIC: Iraq’s Maliki statements on Saudi Arabia ‘irresponsible’

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is saying that Maliki's words were irresponsible.....his claims are absurd....absurd enough to say that Maliki has violated the charter of the OIC.....oh the rain comes down on your head.....no one seems to be a happy camper over what Maliki has done and said this week.

Kuwaiti Consul General officially begin their duties in Basra amid welcoming local government

The new American Consul in Basra begin their duties successor to Mettmann

Consul offices in Basra are hopping this week for both the US and Kuwait.....opening of offices....changing of the guard for the US in Basra.....good things it would seem for the province....good interaction for them.

Parliamentary Finance: cuts will include provisions and not the salaries of the three presidencies

Finance Committee versus the COM....my money is on what the COM tells us is going to happen with regard to these salary cuts.....it really doesn't matter how much is cut.....or where it comes from.....they just are smart in recognizing that such reductions are in order and will benefit the government and the people in a big way.....

It has become apparent that so many government officials have laid their own golden eggs it would seem.....now is time to pull those eggs back and be more realistic and prudent in how these officials are taken care of with regard to salary and perks of the job.

Well, break time it is....Malik is on the hook....in fact he could have a gaff wrapped around his neck about now.....salaries are about to be adjusted.....Iraq eyes Iran and economic potential there......and.....the BEST is yet to come.
