Wednesday News Summaries and Commentaries

Keeping an even keel, the middle of a good week....for some reason Parliament decided even with a good show of members to lift its meeting to tomorrow....what gives with that....not enough on the agenda....need a higher powered law to vote upon....who knows....missed the Bethlehem star last night here, still too much smoke in the atmosphere, but the sun is trying valiantly to break through this morning....thanks for the photos last night TINK, may this light the way.....now for the rest of the news.

Association of Banks: legislation money laundering law will give the world the confidence of the Iraqi private banks

Here's hoping a new law...the Anti-Money Laundering Law will bring new hope and confidence to all banks within Iraq...but may it also bring confidence back to the citizens as well....and keep Iraq off the black list....may this bring guidance to the CBI, the judicial system and all of Iraq.
....
Baghdad Council announces the receipt of the first installment of its budget for 2015

The Baghdad Council reported receiving something less than 10% of its 2015 budget a figure of 680 billion dollars so will let you do the math on what more is supposedly to come.....I believe this is the second or third province to report getting 2015 budget monies but at a significantly reduced percentage....of course this will not be a huge impact on their needs with regards to project expectations for 2015.

Parliamentary Energy: accusations between Baghdad and Erbil stop legislation oil and gas law

Here comes the obvious....we still don't have an oil and gas law....largely due to issues that continue between Baghdad and Erbil.....so what else is new....the oil allegedly isn't flowing as freely from the Kurdistan in June....but we've also heard that it is just not through SOMO....the Kurds think they can again try and sell the oil on their own....let's see how far they get with that venture this time....put the law in place and quit kicking the can down the road.

Parliament held its first meeting under the chairmanship of al-Jubouri, and the presence of 220 deputies

Well maybe they got a little bit of inconsequential work out of the way and then decided.....let's hang it up until tomorrow...these laws will still be here on the table......maybe we can get one or two more added to the stack and have a full day of work voting on them, or at least looking at them and deciding how long we need to delay them down the road.

Abadi: We carried out most of the paragraphs of the government program

Apparently it is report card time again and PM Abadi is quick to point out that "most" of the things he pushed for in his campaign have been done.....or they have at least gotten some needed attention......yes we met with the Kurds.....yes we put an agreement on oil and gas into place back in December.....yes we have not gotten any further with that.....yes we still squabble over how much oil is being exported.....yes we want to agree, but can't help but disagree....on the bright side, we have been successful in our fight against DAASH, pushing them out of many cities and several provinces....meanwhile we stay committed to national reconciliation efforts, the economic reform, the stability of the IQD and of course security.

The government exempts manufacturers from the accumulated accrued interest on loans granted to them

Deputy PM Shaways' Economic Affairs committee has decided to exempt manufacturers from interest that accrues on loans at least for the near term....guess this will be addressed in the 2016 budget.
Parliamentary Economic: taxes imposed on citizens to improve the country's economy

We are from the government and we are here to tax you....this will benefit us more than it does you......so trust us....some believe that taxation will be a benefit to the economic recovery efforts.

Extractive wealth belongs to the Iraqi people with all its components

Oil and gas wealth....a blessing or a curse....well after a number of stalled years for the oil and gas law...maybe not exactly a blessing....or perhaps a blessing yet in disguise.....it is coming....it is almost here.....just wait for it....wait for it....first we had to line the pockets of Maliki and his government....now we can get serious in our talks with the Kurds to assure that everyone gets their share of the black gold pie here.....revenue transparency....oh come on admit it....anything but transparent....those lined pockets of Maliki.

Let's see what the rest of the day brings us....sit back and relax for a while and enjoy the day our God has provided.  Aloha        Randy
