Thursday News Summaries and Commentaries

Government intervention of the World Bank as a partner in the formulation of the budget in 2016

You provide us with a loan that will help our deficit situation and in return we will allow you to step in and assist us with how we build our budget for 2016....interesting trade.....one that can be beneficial for Iraq no doubt by having some proven heavy hitters working with them to do some realistic massaging of what their budget really should look like....

Probably not going to make everyone a happy camper that some outsider is looking at their books....but if it means getting back on track....why knock it....swallow the pride and move on.....after all they do continue to struggle in light of oil prices and economic issues.
....
The distribution of ministries, departments and state institutions salaries before Eid

Coming to a bank near you and maybe a smart card in your wallet.....salaries....money....before Eid.....payment for the month of July....are you kidding.....what about all the previous months too....oh ok I'll be quiet, something is better than nothing.

Kurdistan form a higher committee to negotiate international loans

So the Kurds have formed a high level committee to work on the procurement of international loans on their behalf.....makes sense, you want the heavy hitters up front on this...the ones capable of making decisions as they sit in a conference room or talk over a Monday night CC....sorry about that....but of course for real this is serious business and warrants the highest level of attention that can move and shake something into existence.

KRG: export oil directly will be our priority

One day the Kurds are saying they will follow and support Baghdad, then the next day they roll out of bed on the other side and claim they will export oil on their own directly to and through Turkey....which cheese are they eating.....no matter....what is of importance is trying to find ground that can be agreed upon with Baghdad for the benefit of all of Iraq....to see the HCL become a reality in its entirety.....

IMO.....some international mediation level group needs to take control of this situation between the two groups....line up what the issues are and start to knock them out one at a time....gaining commitments from both sides towards an air of cooperation and harmony that would bless all of Iraq.....oh yes.

Oil: 529 million barrels of total exports for the first half of this year

Key focus points here are an average per day of 2.923 million barrels and an average price per barrel of $49.90.....a shortfall from the budget price of $56...but they do continue to get closer to that magic number.

Parliamentary Finance accuses "Federal" B "robbed right crowd and displaced persons" .. and the Investment Committee applauds the decision of the Court

Those Maliki look-alike hounddogs in the Finance Committee just won't give it up....now accusing the Federal Supreme Court of "plundering" funds earmarked for citizens.....of note is that no one seems to be paying these folks any real attention....probably can't stand that either.

Jihad: we raised the price of gas cylinders because of the high production costs

So the price for a cylinder of gas is going up....from 4,000 to 5,000 dinar and supposedly because of production cost increases....meanwhile the street vendors....are pushing prices of around 7,000 dinar......of course you pay more for the convenience of the guy selling in the street so you don't have to venture to Wal-Mart or Lowes to get a new cylinder....makes sense right....it's also the black market because you probably don't really know what you are buying from that street kid....the cost of doing business.
World Bank agrees to provide financial assistance to Iraq worth $ 350 million

Notice that this is pitched as "financial aid"....they don't claim this....but I suspect this is coming from the World Bank Group...the humanitarian arm of the World Bank....probably not expecting paybacks either or maybe over an extended period at very low interest rates.....humanitarian relief efforts and rebuilding of areas destroyed from the terrorist fighting.

Exchange more than 36 billion dinars to the victims of terrorism during the past three months

COM announced that over the past 3 months some 36 billion dinars have been earmarked or distributed to victims of terrorism battles.....those families most directly affected by the presence of DAASH in Iraq.

Samir Abbas Alnasiri *: Iraqi economic role of media in economic reform

Everywhere you turn in this article they come at you with insight towards economic reform.....but a key point of interest here is how critical the media can be in helping the government bring continuity to their whole economic process....the media can make or break things...and as is the case anywhere, the truth and facts are crucial....reader beware of sources because not all sources are created equal.....

PM Abadi and his government is doing all they can to keep the media focused on what they believe and know to be the facts of the economic reform...they go the extra mile in spelling out 7 significant points that the media can bring clarity to if they choose to share the right information in the right light.

Abadi is not using a strong arm tactic with the media but instead is using his business sense with them to maintain the proper focus....still some sources dance to their own drummer and can be fraught with lies and misinformation....we all to often see evidence of such.

Well it's break time here....will be in and out watching what else pops up through the day.....thanks to the news crew for the great finds on this Thursday.

Aloha    Randy
