Aggiedad77: Hi Don, I so agree with your comment....this is an extraordinary move on Iraq's part....not only to preserve its marshlands but also something that we've taught for years that will become very near and dear to Iraq and all of the Middle East....water.....an important commodity in a desert land of vast magnitude.....this will pay dividends to the Iraqi's in the future....IMO.....why is this important.....it shows that Iraq is looking ahead to what they hope to be a bright future for them and they want to be that "oasis" that brings people together....IMO. confirmed the Ministry of Water Resources, on Monday, to join the marshes World Heritage Site will be required upstream countries to secure water quota to them, indicating that the water share of the marshes should be not less than 150 cubic meters per second.
The Minister of Water Resources Mehdi Rashid Mahdi adviser in an interview Alsumaria News that "marsh inclusion of the world Heritage list will be the United Nations responsible for protecting fully to secure the share of water it , " noting that " the marsh is now not an internal affair of Iraq only, but an international matter and the world, specialists fully responsible officials to protect them."
He Mahdi said : "Once Andham these marshes of the World Heritage List will be required of neighboring countries secured the water quota because the marsh is a water and lack of water supply, there is no there are elements of life in it, and therefore, the water is the backbone to sustain all the paragraphs in the marshes."
He added Rachid "Iraq will have pressure on the riparian states the paper to secure the water portion of the marshes," he said . " the marshes need water share of not less than 150 cubic meters per second to secure the continuity of life and that the ministry arrived at E_merha of the marshes to 60%." said Rachid
" the ministry has a plan to set up tourist areas in the marshes in coordination with the ministries of environment and tourism , "pointing out that" the ministry had previously set up moorings rivers in the marshes, and she is currently working on the completion of the preparation of the infrastructure of the marshes through the preparation of Atlas special marshes, which will hopefully be completed by the end of the current year.
