Brexit risk 'concerns the whole world': Lagarde!
The potential risk of a Brexit after the June 23 referendum on European Union (EU) membership is "a concern for the whole world,"International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde told CNBC.
"It's a concern not just for the U.K., by the way, it's a concern for the world," she told CNBC on Friday when questioned about the potential impact of the U.K.'s referendum on EU membership next week.
" I have not attended any meetings in the last three or four months with any leader, any policymakers or any body where the question of the impact of the U.K. withdrawing was not asked."
"There has been a huge focus on the downside and not much on the benefits and upside," Lagarde said on Friday. "There have been significant benefits (for the U.K.) arising from being part of a single market."
`"It's a pretty overwhelming case when you have a huge body of economists (that agree) that it's going to cost (the U.K.), it's going to be negative for income purposes, it's going to reduce trade most likely as a result of uncertainty and those are blatant facts… When one economist disagrees with another, that's life, but when they all agree ... that's a pretty compelling situation."
"The U.K. has been, is, and I hope will continue to be a champion of (doing things in a) faster, quicker, less bureaucratic and more efficient (way)," she said, adding that she hoped Europe would continue to try to perfect itself.
Lagarde was speaking to CNBC in Vienna where earlier in the day she had presented a speech on European unity.
The speech, entitled "Unity in Diversity: The Case for Europe" is timely given rising populism and Euroskepticism in the 28-country European Union (EU), a continuing refugee crisis, economic uncertainty and a forthcoming U.K. referendum on EU membership.
U.K. opinion polls show a very tight race between the leave and remain camps and should a so-called Brexit occur, it could precipitate political upheaval in the bloc.
The IMF's Lagarde said in her speech that Europe needs to come together now more than ever.
"Right now, too many Europeans are worried about their cultural identity, their security, their jobs, incomes, and living standards. And too many of them are led to believe that things would be better if only Europe returned to closed borders and economic nationalism," she said, according to extracts of the speech released by the IMF.

Thunderhawk: Iran says Boeing deal biggest with US ever
Iran says it expects an emerging deal to purchase planes from US aerospace giant Boeing to become the biggest civil trade agreement between the two countries after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Asghar Fakhriyeh Kashan, Iran’s deputy minister for roads and urban development, has been quoted by the media in Tehran as saying that serious talks are currently underway over the deal, adding that they would lead to “good news” that will be announced within the next two days.
Fakhriyeh Kashan added that the details of the deal cannot be disclosed at the current juncture adding that its finalization is still pending certain standard technicalities.
Iran Air - the national flag carrier airline of the Islamic Republic – said in early June that it is discussing what is seen as a “historic aircraft purchase deal” with Boeing.
Iran Air CEO Farhad Parvaresh told Reuters that serious talks with Boeing to the same effect are underway, expressing hope that these would lead to an agreement sometime soon.
Reuters added that the volume of the purchase deal with Boeing could be as big as the one that Iran Air sealed with another aviation giant Airbus earlier this year.
Iran signed a major deal worth $27 billion with Airbus in January to purchase 118 planes from the company. The deal with Airbus was sealed during a state visit to Paris by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.
Apart from Airbus and Boeing, Iran is also negotiating with several other global aviation giants over the purchases of planes including Bombardier and Embraer.
Iran has a fleet of 250 aircraft, of which officials say 90 are grounded due to the economy or missing parts.
They also say that 80 percent of Iran’s aviation fleet will need to be renewed in the next decade and that growth could add even more jets to Iran's shopping list.

Thunderhawk: e-Visa service planned by next March
Arrangements have been made to issue electronic visas for visitors to Iran prior to their arrival, announced the Head of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Mohammad Soltanifar.
The service, he added will be available in the year to mid-March 2017.
He listed other steps taken to promote the tourism industry as extending airport visa validity period from 15 to 30 days and visa waivers by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also other measures have been undertaken such as launching new flights, purchasing aircrafts and renovating the air fleet, he said.
Soltanifar said that 33 four- and five-star hotels have been constructed across the country, adding 800 one- to five-star hotels and hotel-apartments are also under construction.
He described the presence of foreign investors in Iranian tourism market as a good sign.
Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi said e-visa facilities would become operational in September.
He added that currently, visa is issued in five days. With the launching of e-visa process, the procedure would be reduced to 24 hours, he said.
Iran has visa waiver programs with Armenia and Georgia, he pointed out.

Thunderhawk: India to export rails worth $150m for Chabahar next month
Indian steel companies will export rails worth $150 million to Iran next month as part of a pact between the two countries to develop railway and other infrastructure at strategically important Chabahar port.
"The consignment of rail worth $150 million would be sent to Iran from India in July," a top official told PTI after Iran's Ambassador to India Gholamreza Ansari called on Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday.
The consignment of rails will be shipped by steel companies, the official said, adding that both Gadkari and Ansari deliberated on taking further the historic pact between the nations on the strategic Chabahar Port in southern Iran which will give India access to Afghanistan and Europe bypassing Pakistan.
The pact to develop the Chabahar port and other infrastructure was inked last month during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Persian Gulf nation. Gadkari last month said that India would invest billions of dollars in setting up industries — ranging from aluminum smelter to urea plants — in Iran's Chabahar Free Trade Zone.
Also, railway PSU IRCON will build a rail line at Chabahar to move goods right up to Afghanistan. The rail links are being built so that the land-locked Afghanistan can get access to the Iranian port as an alternative to the Pakistani port of Karachi.
The official said that a meeting is also "scheduled next month between shipping minister and his Iranian counterpart to develop a work plan for industrial needs and investments needed for Chabahar Free Trade Zone". The focus will be setting up industries in the Chabahar Free Trade Zone.
Besides the bilateral pact to develop Chabahar Port for which India will invest $500 million, a trilateral agreement on transport and transit corridor has also been signed by India, Afghanistan and Iran, which the prime minister said could "alter the course of the history of the region".
Also, Gadkari has been stressing that the distance between Kandla and the Chabahar port is less than the distance between New Delhi and Mumbai and the pact would enable India quick movement of goods first to Iran and then onwards to Afghanistan and Russia through a new rail and road link.

Venezuelan Oil Minister Eulogio del Pino said on Thursday fellow OPEC member Iran would reach pre-sanction oil output levels by September, allowing a revival of talks on a global oil production freeze.
Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of Russia's main economic forum in St. Petersburg, Del Pino said the freeze idea could be discussed at an informal meeting of OPEC and non-OPEC producers in Algeria in September.
He also said he would propose OPEC formally adopts a policy of 'production ranges', which would allow output of country members to fluctuate by a certain amount.
That would allow the organization not to go back to discussing the thorny issue of a production ceiling and individual production quotas, he said.
"We will have production ranges and will monitor them constantly. That would give flexibility to correct things real time," he added.
Venezuela has suffered badly from the oil price collapse with its production declining as in many other producing countries. But del Pino said it was now recovering as recent rains have helped power production, which is essential for oilfields' functioning.
"Venezuelan production is not out of control... Electricity supply restrictions have been removed today. Output is rising."
Output would rise to 2.8 million barrels per day by the end of the year, he said.
Del Pino said current production stood at 2.7 million bpd, allowing the country to export 0.6 million to China, 0.4 million to India, 0.8-0.9 million to the United States and keep around 0.55 million bpd for local consumption. http://ift.tt/1YzJVjr

Venezuela has suffered badly from the oil price collapse with its production declining as in many other producing countries. But del Pino said it was now recovering as recent rains have helped power production, which is essential for oilfields' functioning.
"Venezuelan production is not out of control... Electricity supply restrictions have been removed today. Output is rising."
Output would rise to 2.8 million barrels per day by the end of the year, he said.
Del Pino said current production stood at 2.7 million bpd, allowing the country to export 0.6 million to China, 0.4 million to India, 0.8-0.9 million to the United States and keep around 0.55 million bpd for local consumption. http://ift.tt/1YzJVjr
