Thursday News Summaries and Commentaries

Barzani refuses to form a strong outside the Peshmerga and show willingness to cooperate with the crowd

President Barzani stands firm in his convictions and faith in the Peshmerga.....that the Kurdistan does not need additional help....especially from the popular crowd....you want to defend the region...then have what it takes to join the Peshmerga....end of conversation.....we will help others when and where we can....should we ever need outside help....we will ask for it.
....
Abadi: improving communications service will bring additional resources to the State

PM Abadi wants telecommunications companies to step up to the plate and do their part to help stimulate the Iraqi economy.....he says their competition will be good for the economy just as long as they don't overburden the citizen in costs....their work should strive for improved communications systems throughout Iraq.

Kurds refuse to enter the National Guard to the disputed

The Kurds exhibit great pride in the Peshmerga forces that defend their region....they are quick to keep outsiders from muscling their way into any protective stance alongside the Peshmerga forces....or in pushing the Peshmerga into some other blended organization that would dilute what they have today....sort of reminds of the US Marines....the few...the proud....the Marines....they definitely do not want to be directed or told what to do by someone outside their own region.

Military Assistant to the assassination of Baghdadi in Mosul

Just a point that I want to make here......2010.....2010.....not 2008....not 2007....but 2010....this thug was turned loose by the US....by the current administration....this thug who has now been responsible for untold deaths and torture of Christians and others....we had him and turned him loose.....to what end.....there is a lesson here.....but those in power will fail to learn from it...fail to see the error of their ways.....good riddance.

International coalition succeeds in forcing Daash to return to Syria

So the ISIS dogs are running to Syria because they feel more comfortable there....too bad there weren't a bunch of Marines sitting on the Iraqi-Syrian border ready for range practice when these thugs came running.....a missed opportunity....however International Coalition forces are making their Syrian strongholds less comfortable with increased air strikes into Syria.....you can run but you cannot hide.

Committee economy: the forward propulsion system "is bad" .. and will include projects completed by 50%

"Scotty give us all you got"......Captn....she's giving us all she has to give...but it's only 50% at best....maybe we better turn around and use reverse to get us to the "event" in quicker time."........gotta love that Scottish ingenuity......

Some economists point to the work now get paid later program Iraq is proposing as an error in ways....but Dr. Saleh the economic speaking head for PM Abadi continues to insist it is not a problem, nor is it to remain a long term fix....just until Iraq can get back on its feet and remove the liquidity issues.....

It would appear that some of these economists can't stop complaining long enough to fully grasp the reality of the crisis that Iraq faces and it is these times that call for drastic measures.....give the government a chance to work a plan and quit complaining.....roll your sleeves up and get dirty and don't be afraid of a little sweat....it will not cause you to melt.

Parliamentary Finance reveal smuggling $ 200 billion since 2005

$200 billion dollars....this is just the amount you found in Maliki's left front inside pocket.....see what tumbles out when you rip out the liner of the jacket....don't be afraid to dig deeper....there is more to be mined from this corrupt snake....follow the slithering signs....it all leads to one viper....sure others had their fangs in the till as well...but they were simple "following the leader"......I still do not see the reason for the Finance Committee to be creating their own committee to do what the Integrity Commission is already doing.....something, someone, somewhere within this Finance Committee wood pile has some dirty laundry that ought to be stinking by now.

Iraq's 2015 oil output seen flat, next year a challenge

There is one thing about the oil business, it has always taken money to make money....today is no different....if Iraq's coffers are empty.....they can't pay the oil companies for their efforts.....it's going to be extremely difficult to raise production or exports by any significant amounts.....only so much can be accomplished on promises and dreams.....I'm not buying that Iraqi production is at 3.3 million barrels per day....their exports are sure not supporting that...and they have limited storage so something has to be a tad bit off....meanwhile Iraq continues to try and renegotiate contracts with oil companies.

Parliamentary Finance expects decline of the dinar against the dollar in the next few days

Here we see that dreaded Iraqi terms again...."next few days"......they expect to see improvements made in the span between the USD and the IQD...in the next few days.....because more sales outlets have been added.....get rid of Article 50 if you want to see a significant improvement in the dinar against the dollar....listen to Dr. Saleh....he wears the t-shirt of success.

Deputy: 312 billion Dolarhrepett outside Iraq under remittances and business addresses of the purchase of equipment

More she said he said from the Finance Committee.....if you truly think the CBI is guilty of corruption....then lets see some formal charges being applied to specific individuals.....yes without a doubt there has been rampant corruption inside the government of Iraq....the government.....not the CBI.....someone had to have some integrity to keep the country's revenues as high as they have been....the government had no say in that....

Someone had to have some integrity to maintain the inflation levels well below 5% for the years since the fall of Saddam.....the government had no say in that.....those are the doings of the CBI.....but let the government step in and slap Article 50 on the CBI and watch things immediately....and I mean immediately start to fall to heck in a hand basket......that...that is the doings of the government....those who are far from qualified to run much less judge what the CBI has been doing for the past 10 plus years.....

Look at PM Abadi.....a man of great integrity...a man who will not accept any form of corruption within his government....look at one of the first choices he made as PM....appointing Dr. Saleh.....one of those who was accused by the former government of wrong-doing to sit as his primary advisor on economics.....Dr. Saleh's background has been within the realm of the CBI.....

This Finance Committee should be very careful as to who they point fingers at...and where they sling their accusations upon....do the math....look at the history.....this group...this single group of Parliament has made the most noise about CBI corruption....no one else within Parliament is standing with them.....let that be a strong hint....all IMO.

Finance Committee: the budget announced by the government deficit is incorrect

Just once, I would like to see these detractors from the government provide some reasonable facts that would support their cries of woe for Iraq....instead they are able to get by with throwing up numbers without any real back up to them.....I can and have had talked in recent past about the deficit growing if the Iraqi's continue to rely too heavily upon oil for their revenues....

We are witnessing a continued problem if this is the case....Iraq oil has been selling at best for around $50 per barrel and in some cases below that level....their budget target is $56....anything and any time spent below that mark or bubble is time in the red....and the deficit has the potential of growing....

Then on the other side of the coin....if you can't raise prices effectively....and oil is still the focal point....raise production....but they really aren't being too successful with that either...maybe marginally so....thus the deficit hole grows just from the fact that they have bills to pay, salaries to pay...and not enough money coming in....each day amasses more debt.....so the real question...is it actually 47 trillion dinars.....and the answer....who really knows...maybe Abadi, Shabibi, or Zebari.

The direct application of the customs tariff in the border ports Law

So in the south, primarily Basra I would think....they are applying customs tariffs at border ports....the seaports in Basra perhaps....15% on autos and 20-25% on other goods being off-loaded.....if I'm an importer by sea...I think I find a way to get my goods into Kuwait....pay their import fees and then see what it costs to transport those goods across the border into Iraq....maybe saving a few bills that way....who knows.....but is this a sign of other parts of the budget finally showing up....who is to say....but it is definitely something worth watching.

Planning: the cost of investment projects last year's 298 billion and 972 million dinars

Ministry of Planning has announced that the amount of investment projects for 2014 totaled almost 300 billion dinars....nearly a 6% increase over 2013....the industry sector held about 38% of those total costs....building and services ran second with 27%....followed by transport and communications.....oil had the biggest take with these investments at almost 20% followed by electricity at 16%....bottom line...oil is still king within Iraq.

Iraq: Islamic banks cooperate with the Investment Authority for the implementation of development projects

Islamic Banks of Iraq remain supportive of the Investment Authority and towards the beginning of development projects that they can lend support to in some fashion through their banking instruments.....they are willing to try to set up mortgage funds that could be free of interest as a means of drawing attention to their abilities to effectively participate in the Iraqi economy.....they want to plan a conference in the near future to further demonstrate to the public their ability to work as a viable banking source within Iraq....continuing to offer services to the private sector.

Video: What are the implications of lower oil prices on the Iraqi economy?

"I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a barrel of oil today".....but what if I still don't have money on Tuesday.....I'll give you the oil you produce then as payment.....but what happens to our bank account in the meantime....after all oil has been our primary source of revenue.....it grows dusty from misuse.....sure as someone spoke about....other resources within Iraq are trying to step up to the plate and carry their own load...but that takes time and doesn't happen overnight....paying with oil can be a quick short term fix....but it has to be just that....short term....Iraq is short on cash....and will continue to be short if they don't start to generate cash.

KRG, Genel Energy, Tony Hayward and oil deals in Kurdistan

This is one very liberal reporter providing his opinion regarding Genel Energy and making accusations that the Kurds have some pull or say in what Genel Energy, a privately held company, does with their investments and money......what a bleeding heart....the corporate world does not work in that fashion...

If  Genel Energy goes under...there are any number of other oil companies who would likely knock each other over in the race to take Genel's place in the Kurdistan right now, even with oil prices as low as they are....oil prices will come back....when....anyone's guess...but they will surge once again.....oil is a very cyclical business....always has been...most likely always will be......so be wary of some of the things you read....just because it is in newsprint does not always make the story much more believable....only to the gullible.

Parliamentary Foreign Affairs: we will give the law of treaties and agreements to vote next week

Heads up Parliament....a vote could be on the horizon for the treaties and convention laws next week.....this regulates quality of all agreements on any number of issues within Iraq....very important law.....security treaties and other sensitive matters will require 2/3 vote and all others will be by simple majority.

Interest rate stimulates the banks issuing more licenses in Iraq

Interesting and quite simple read regarding opening a bank in Iraq and other ME countries.....not as difficult as one might imagine....but none the less a bit of money is required to get things started regardless of where you are looking....profits seem to be there though....even with all the risk associated with the location.

A spokesman for the prime minister: Washington agreed to extend the Iraq weapons against the «credit guarantees»

Now PM Abadi's office is reporting that Washington agreed to credit gestures when it comes to arms, ammunition and other military equipment.....payment due later they say.....all for the sake of fighting DAASH and the air strikes....they are thrown in for free....and those weapons and other stuff let's accelerate their delivery every way we can....financial help is on the way too with regard to those displaced as well as to help reconstruction efforts in those areas destroyed by the fighting with the terrorists.....

So why would they delay the announcement of such "success" associated with the recent visit to Washington...over a week after getting back home......well remember....according to Frank.....

Abadi was told that certain things need to happen when he returns home....could it be that he has indeed held to his word and promises and accomplished what he was asked to do....so now those weapons and other equipment have been freed up to find their way to Iraq....think on that for a while...what has Abadi done since he returned home.....kind of been low-key....but who has he met with.....and to what end....time should tell us more.

Basra council rejects new customs tariff

You know the customs tariffs that were talked about above....well the Basra Governorate Council says no deal...they see this as a means of moving some traders out of the province towards the Kurdistan where they know it is unlikely the Kurds would implement such tariffs this quickly.....they won't stand for any such action.....claiming such action would simply raise prices in the local markets...nope not going to happen they claim.

I see Frank is up and about....while he's answering posts....I'll grab a quick cup of coffee and a handful of cookies...but don't tell him
