Walkingstick:  SWIFT alone not a solution: banking official

Tehran, April 4, IRNA – A senior banking official called for setting regulations for international banking relations, adding SWIFT alone is not a solution.

SWIFT just acts as a message sender, Hossein Yaqoubi told reporters saying banking regulations are needed before using SWIFT.

SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) banking system is the global provider of secure financial messaging services.

Yaqoubi, international affairs' director at Central Bank of Iran (CBI), said Iran has established 300 banking relations with foreign banks since anti-Iran sanctions were lifted in January.

Under sanctions, Iran's banking relations were so limited and had not been counted up even to ten, he said.

He further said banking relations should not be considered mistakenly as SWIFT.
Swift, he added, is just a global financial communications system that is used for financial relations between different banks.

The text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and the six world powers has focused on use of some tools like SWIFT when all international banking activities had been done, he added.

SWIFT, he stressed, was among the first positive outcomes of the JCPOA.
At present, 29 Iranian banks are active in Swift, Yaqoubi said.

He further stressed that international banking relations are among secret issues.

Walkingstick:  Iraq's parliament ratified the agreement on economic and technical cooperation with Kuwait

BAGHDAD - 4-4 (KUNA) - The Iraqi parliament on Monday ratified the Law of Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Governments of the Republic of Iraq and Kuwait with the Convention.

The Council said in a statement that the agreement signed between the two governments on June 12, 2013 aimed at "enhancing cooperation in economic and technical fields" between the two sides.

The statement noted that the Kuwaiti and Iraqi governments were signed six agreements on environmental, diplomatic, and economic and technical cooperation and higher education during a visit by His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Prime Minister to Baghdad in June 2013.

According to the Iraqi constitution, all agreements signed by the government with other countries, shall be considered only after the House of Representatives authentication. (End) h e / SAOG

wmawhite  ...the Kurds wanted 20% of the new cabinet (GOI) positions. PM Abadi's list had the Kurds filling 2 positions...the Kurds ALWAYS never agree to anything until after the deadline has passed.  

P.S...20% of 16 ministers is 3.2...IMO, Abadi knew this was coming and it will be a process that he is extremely good at doing.
