chattels: LONDON – The war with Islamic extremists in Iraq would have gone differently if Britain had sent soldiers into battle instead of only training Iraqi and Kurdish forces, the UK’s former security envoy to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region said.

In a BBC interview Lt. Gen. Sir Simon Mayall, who was also the former senior advisor for the Middle East from 2011-2015, criticized the UK’s “inadequate response” to the war against the Islamic State group (ISIS).

“If we had taken the decision early on that we were not simply going to train the Iraqi security forces and the Kurds but we were going to accompany them into battle, we would have found that the leverage we would have achieved in terms of capability on the battlefield would be massively higher,” Mayall said in the interview broadcast Friday.

“We would have given them confidence, competence; we would have given them credibility and I think we would have been able to see off some of the Iranian influence that came with the popular mobilization,” he added   chattels: http://ift.tt/1dh0hsK...
