Abstract
Would a more pluralistic international monetary system - one with more international currencies on a more equal footing - enhance global monetary, financial and macroeconomic stability?
There is no doubt that the dominance of one currency creates challenges for the international monetary and financial system (IMFS), since the domestic interests of the issuing country need not coincide with those of the system as a whole.
But it is less clear whether a more pluralist approach could help address the system's main weakness or "excess (financial) elasticity" - that is, its inability to prevent the build-up and unwinding of hugely damaging financial imbalances, or outsize financial cycles, thereby amplifying weaknesses in national arrangements.
Addressing this weakness would require stronger anchors at national and international level. Some progress has been made, especially at national level, but much more needs to be done.

_firefly_ says():Of course, nothing is really new here – nor should it be, if what we are seeing is indeed the reflection of the system’s structural weakness. We have seen these patterns play out again and again ahead of previous financial crises in EMEs.
And these mechanisms were also at work before the Great Financial Crisis (GFC). Then, as now, EMEs were already receiving strong inflows and under pressure to keep monetary policy easy.
But their domestic financial expansions were younger, as many of these economies were still recovering from the crises in the mid-to-late 1990s. Financial cycles are considerably longer than business cycles, and have lasted on average between 16 and 20 years following financial liberalisation

He asked: «How can the political process which is going to continue for 14 years in the mop and the abolition of a large segment of the people». He pointed out that the political process «amounted to an unreasonable sectarian and based on lies and corruption». He said he had told the prime minister, Haidar al-Abbadi, that he and his party «call» «against reconciliation».
In response to a question from the «Arab Jerusalem» about national coalition efforts in bringing together the various national project invitations, Allawi stressed that they first called to project beyond the sectarian quota system, and it welcomes all sincere national efforts.
He expressed his willingness to ally with whoever is «ready to vote on the reform and policy change», with caution from some quarters that have the purpose of improperly ride through the reform wave.
