Wealthwatch Saturday Evening Chat 11-7-15

chattels: Reidar Visser ‏@reidarvisser 5h5 hours ago In Najaf today, #Iraq PM Abadi didn't get to see Sistani, but held meetings with Sadr & Yaqubi. Search for allies? pmo.iq/press2015/7-

chattels: Reidar Visser ‏@reidarvisser 3h3 hours ago Maliki tells Russian TV he supports efforts by #Iraq parliament to restrain PM Abadi, also wants Russian air strikes http://ift.tt/1kiOFtN;…LINK

chattels: Abadi al-Jubouri met in Najaf
 ~~~
chattels: "The parliament had voted at its Monday past the refusal to carry out a mandate of any legislative powers entrusted to him by the Constitution and the separation of powers in its implementation.
chattels: For his part, counting Abadi, the parliament's decision as "wrong message" accusing "some quarters [which he did not name] trying to bring the conflict between the authorities," stressing "his determination and his determination to continue reforms and the fight against corruption and not be undone despite the challenges and obstacles.
chattels: " .......... Abadi, the parliament's decision as "wrong message" ........... "
 chattels: Elsewhere in " dinarland " the pundits have the reforms progressing full speed ahead. I am not reading that in the news I am finding.
chattels: Abadi is firm and resolute in his speech, but how much help will he get from the Parliament ?
chattels: Tune in on Tuesday as Parliament reconvenes.
chattels: Jubourri questions the legality of the vote in Parliament on the dismissal of the VP's. Suggests that " ideally " a bill should be drafted and endorsed by the COM and presented to parliament for a vote. http://ift.tt/1LdSXs7... Courtesy of OOTW  LINK
 chattels: This " technicality " is very similar to the Term Limits vote that was ruled unconstitutional by the Judiciary.
Lauren305: ‹@chattels› Good afternoon. Ok, I confess. I'm Confused..... I read the articles, convoluted translations that they are and I can't tell what side they jumped on.. This post on DR indicates what I thought it said, but is your take different? I do admit, a different article seemed to counter this...
 Lauren305: OK Rocks: IN ALL THE MUCK THIS IS WHAT NEEDS TO STAND OUT... "House of Representatives responded to the religious authority Alajtza kind of language, it welcomed the President of the Parliament Saleem al-Jubouri, at the invitation of Mr. al-Sistani because the government reforms in line with the Constitution and the law, and re-examine the special privileges that had been approved during the previous parliamentary sessions."...
The House voted unanimously during its meeting held on Monday (2/11/2015) on the return of all the powers granted to Ebadi to the original destination as the House of Representatives voted to prevent the executive and judicial branches of the use of his powers.
WHAT THAT IS SAYING IS ON NOV 2 THEY VOTED FOR ABADI TO KEEP ALL HIS POWERS AND HE IS THERE TO STAY, ALONG WITH HIS REFORMS
Lauren305: ‹@chattels› ‹@chattels› help!!!!!! i was screaming that, btw
chattels: The Parliament endorsed the Abadi reforms PROVIDED that they conform to the constitution is my take on it.
[06:15:09 PM] chattels: The question as to the dismissal of the VP's seems to be whether the vote by Parliament now almost two months ago was legally effective to remove the VP's under the constitution.
chattels: Each reform will likely have to stand on it's own as to constitutionality.
chattels: What is " DR " ? DinarRecaps ?
Lauren305: ‹@chattels› thank you, sir. Appreciate your taking the time to explain
chattels: Clearly Mr. Maliki has an appeal to the Judiciary pending and his position is that unless and until there is a ruling by the court that he is still a VP.
chattels: A source in Abadi's office stated otherwise, so ............. ????????????
chattels: It is all rather conflicted and confusing - no doubt.
Lauren305: ‹@chattels› I thought I'd seen an article fom Parliament wherein they stated they gave blanket approval to the reforms put forth by Abadi, going back to Aug 9th, including the 3 VP and DP firings, but then this week articles seem to indicate they question it... of course the questions only arose as soon as Salaries were brought up
Lauren305: I know Sadr stated publicly that the VPs remaining or doing legal maneuverings to remain, were bad form and bad for the people of Iraq.
chattels: The point is, IMO, that Abadi cannot usurp the powers of the Parliament or the Judiciary. He cannot dictate or by " executive order " as some pundits have stated accomplish his reforms. Everyone says that they support the reforms, but due legal process must be observed. To complicate the foregoing it appears that there is no consensus upon that process, IMO.
chattels: The vote in Parliament endorsing the Abadi reforms is arguably, according to some, a general acclamation of support, but not legally sufficient to implement the reform(s).
chattels: Publically all want to appear to support the demands of the people and the Abadi reforms, but clandestinely, at least the State of Coalition, does not agree and continues to support Maliki, IMO.
Lauren305: ‹@chattels› it is often difficult to tell which articles are "official" and which are just mouthpieces or opinions from Maliki supporters, or just those bucking the system without being Maliki supporter.
Lauren305: i swear, after all this, I'm going to get the ugliest dog i can find and name him Maliki
chattels: excellent observation - one must look closely at who is talking
Lauren305: ‹@chattels› maliki has to be smelling rank by now. They must want to breathe clean fresh desert air
chattels: ‹@Lauren305› the corrupt avoid the light / fresh air - they thrive in the dark
chattels: A little boy goes to his dad and asks, 'What is Parliamentary Politics?' Dad says, 'Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I am the head of the family, so call me The Prime Minister.
Your mother is the administrator of the money, so we call her the Government. We are here to take care of your needs, so we will call you the People. The nanny, we will consider her the Working Class. And your baby brother, we will call him the Future. Now think about that and see if it makes sense.'
So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what Dad has said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his nappy.
So the little boy goes to his parent's room and finds his mother asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny.. He gives up and goes back to bed.
The next morning, the little boy say's to his father, 'Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now.'
The father says, 'Good, son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about.' The little boy replies, 'The Prime Minister is screwing the Working Class while the Government is sound asleep. The People are being ignored and the Future is in deep scatology.
