DebTarHeelGirl: "When to Give or Not to Give" 1-7-16

When to Give or Not to Give - by: DebTarHeelGirl

Today, I want to share with you some ideas, information in regards to giving. There are many out there right now, today, who are asking for money now for various reasons from good, innocent, and unaware folks like yourselves.

We have not come into this life to be used or taken advantage of although many times we've allowed others to do so by innocently giving to others that of our precious time and even more precious, our money.

Do not fall prey to a false responsibility, or unnecessary guilt. Do not blindly give for the sake of giving or because you feel it's the thing to do!

Even now, there are ravenous wolves itching to take advantage of your faith (yes, I stated faith), your kindness, and your generosity.  Don't be duped!  Protect yourself and give according to how and when you should give.
....
The enemy can use our kind and giving nature to dangerously and severely sway us from the way we should go when it comes to giving.  If we flippantly and kindheartedly move forward in giving with the thought, "Hey, it's all for a good cause!", we will be on the road to severely being used, many times over!

The question one should ask themselves before giving is simply, "How good is this so-called good cause and who exactly is going to benefit from my hard earned money?"

For those of faith, the very first thing we should do when seeking to give or being approached to give is take the situation before God.  It is ordained for us to give!  We all know that!

However, and sadly, those with wicked and selfish gain in mind know that too and that's where the veil of deception all too often hides in many giving situations.  We so want to do the right thing...right?  Seeking wisdom in your desire to give, where to give, and to whom to give, is wise and prudent, and just plain good stewardship.

Following are some points to consider:

1.  If you give, is your donation truly going to a legitimate project, ministry, or humanitarian effort?

2.  Will your giving truly line up with your vision for blessing others?

3.  Before giving, always ask questions of the one asking for money.  Questions such as:

a.   Is the organization or individual registered?
b.   What is the business plan of the individual or organization?
c.   What is their sincere vision?
d.   Who is on the board?
e.   Can you speak or meet face to face with anyone on the board?
f.    What is the organization's track record?

4.  Red flag statements:  Give now!  We need your help now!  We have a desperate need now!  Desperation is understandable...but who is, or what is the desperate situation?  Check into it!
5.  All 501c3 organizations have a tax exemption letter that they should be sending to donors...upon request!  If an organization cannot or will not provide you with a copy of a tax exempt letter, which is under our current system, that is another red flag.  There is a good probable chance that they are not a legitimate organization.

6.  Call the Attorney General’s office to inquire of any organization or entity that is 501c3 status.  The office will assist you with information on how to check out any project or ministry you would like to donate to.

Giving to others is one of the great blessings in life. It is a fulfilling act and the rewards for giving are immeasurable if just in the satisfaction it brings alone.

Sadly, we live in a world where even the blessing of giving has been challenged because of those person's who care not for others or the cause they claim to support.  Their only cause is personal gain.

Be wise and may you always be blessed in the right kind of giving.

All my best to you,     Debbie
